Today was the first day of the last.
.... The last of the WASL tests, that is.
The Washington Assessment of Student Learning. WASL. Kinda like a Waffle. It's just the state-wide standardized test all students in this state have to take. This is the first year students in the 10th grade have to pass in order to graduate. After tenth grade, you never have to take it again.
Anyway, the first part of the written portion was today. They stuck us all in the gym, gave us our tests as well as slices of oranges that nobody knew who cut, and told us not to fail. No pressure--Just don't screw up. And eat the oranges. Eat. Them. Now. I think I did very well, considering the prompt for today's essay was very stupid. Never once have I thought about why iPods or Myspace is popular, I just knew it was and let that be. No, today I have to write an entire essay on it, and essay that if I write poorly could keep me from passing the tenth grade.
But I BSed the facts. I made them sound plausible, made them reasonable. After, this essay is to examine your ability to read and understand a prompt, and your ability to write an essay. Not your ability to figure out why goldfish shoes are out, when they should so totally be in.
Tomorrow is another essay, as well as Thursday. Nothing Friday, and Monday Tuesday is the reading portion. After spring break it will be the math and science portion. You don't have to pass the science portion, but you do have to pass everything else. I usually get done pretty early, and then I have to sit in the gym for an hour being quiet. Maybe I'll start knitting, since I can't bring my needlework to school. Needles are pointy. I'll knit myself a scarf to wear while I motor around in my automobile.
Bully!
Which reminds me, I think I am getting a little too far into this steampunk thing. I bought myself a pocket watch, just some cheap little thing. But the numbers on the face are perfect, as well as the style of the hands. And the watch is as much leather as it is timepiece. I can attach it to my tool belt without it looking out of place! I am looking for pilot's goggles to buy (much like the pixelated ones here on Gaia!), and if I'm not careful I might buy myself a top hat next time I walk into Hot Topic and they have their hat display up. I've also found a steampunk band. I am a little iffy on their music--It almost sounds like pure noise to me--but I think they might be more tolerable in larger doses. I've only gotten to hear parts of songs so far. *cringe* Ew, the singer dude just screamed in the angriest voice ever, "Lovingly made by hand!" I am confused. But I think it's growing on me.
