Lived & Died Where Worlds Collide
Fragment Two - Paradise
Here, the stars shine. Brighter than I have ever seen. And I feel like I am a part of the universe. Like I am finally home.

I used to dream of a utopian society, a paradise on Earth. I used to think I could bring something like that into being. That I could change things. That maybe, if I had a chance, I could create a haven for people who think like I do. But nothing ever works out the way you want it to, I guess. Because people are inherently bad.

Here, the moonlight makes my skin almost glow. I am a reflection of that luminescent surface hanging on the horizon. A reflection of a reflection, lit by false light over great distances.

Here, I can hear the breaking waves rushing towards a distant shore, and I close my eyes. In a single breath I am born up towards the stars. The water makes me feel weightless, and I inhale deeply just as a cool sea breeze sends shivers down my spine. When I open my eyes again, the stars are dancing and singing. I reel with them, throwing myself into the cosmic current and feeling the wild music of the universe deep inside myself.

Here, in this moment, I am in paradise.

Are you talking about Marathon? That's the only place I can think of that we've been to inspire you to write Paradise.

Actually, yes. I was. Good call.

Remind me tomorrow that I owe you a cookie. I dare not interrupt your snoring now.
