After a shower Rez felt much better- more so than he had at all that week. However, the look of irritation on Amberlyn's face quickly had him backing up, since he didnt want another wall to fix. "Do you do this on purpose?" she asked him, gesturing to the dragon girl who was still unconscious. He looked at her, then to the dragon girl, then back to her. "Do what?" he asked, hesitant. She gave a frustrated sigh. "It very hard dealing with your ignorance sometimes, though I guess this time its more my fault for not even attempting to teach after the last six times..." she sat down and rubbed her temples. "Sit down, Im going to clue you into exactly what our current situation is- dont interrupt me when I go over things you already know." Rez sat down across from her and nodded. There were times when he knew what was going on, but those were few and far between since the Vampiress had come into his life. "Lets start with what you definitely know. As you know, the humans and Supernaturals were at war several centuries ago- the exact time at which the war started, or the reason why is debatable, but it doesnt matter right now. Anyway, the Humans were losing, so they turned to a sect forbidden even by their leaders for help: The Magi." Rez nodded. He knew this part- Humans had greater numbers during this time, but a single Supernatural had enough power to equal a few hundred humans at that point. It was like trying to take on a Nuke with ants- possible, but the number of ants and destruction was just not acceptable. So they had turned to the magi to make a sweapon that would even the playing field a bit. "The first creatures your Magi made were Dragonslayers, but because they took so much to make only a few, and they often suicide-killed the dragons they fought, things didnt improved. Next came your Black Knights- they were modified humans, sacrificing life and sanity for power. They were cheaply made, but they took out just as many enemies as allies- too unpredictable for your side's tastes." Rez nodded again. There were still a few Dragonslayers left, and he thought they had a Black Knight on ice somewhere- he wasnt a high enough priority to have that kind of information."There was another series after that, the Dullahan. They were the predecessors to the final type." "I was getting to that. Anyway, your side was losing badly still, so some genius had the bright idea to make you Black Skeletons. Bad juju all the way around there, but that's far enough for what Im telling you. So you guys were made, and then we have this tentative peace. What you dont know is pretty much anything about our societies." The way she said that made Rez begin to worry. "What do you mean, 'societies'?" She gave him a scathing look. "What, did you think we were lawless, barbarian tribes or something? We have cities, and all that too. A couple monarchies and such as well. We even had a budding empire last time I'd gone back." "Sorry, this is just the first I'd heard of this." She looked at him with a smile that made him shiver. "That's the only reason you still have..." she gave a pointed look to his nether regions. "I like where those are, thank you. They're a b***h to grow back." It happened more often than he'd like. "Continue with your story." "Its not a story, its an explanation, but fine. Anyway, there are about... eight families-" "Nine" chimed the conscience pair from the next room. "-Thirteen families that make up most of the governing bodies. I'll say them in english so you understand. There are the Mers, Spirits, Weres, Vampires, Ghosts, Dragons, Angels, Demons, and..." "The Touched." they chimed in again. As the girls rattled off the families, he did a quick headcount in his mind. In his home there was a vamp, a Angel, a demon, a ghost, a mermaid... and now a dragon. "What I find amazing is that you blunder yourself so easily into the customs of our individual peoples." Amberlyn said, again rubbing her temples. "Customs?" Am sighed. "You already know mine, those that bite and dont become slaves are in essence our Mate- for five hundred years, at least, you and I are stuck together. Since you saved the ditzy duo," she gestured to the angel and demon in the next room. "You're stuck with them forever, if just for balance. Belle haunts you now, not the house, and she's going to hit full grown soon. Dont bother trying to understand, it'll just cause problems for you in the long run- I'll explain more when necessary. Fishsticks gave you that earring- which you stupidly accepted- so now you two are stuck together too." "Hey, I was going to drown if I didnt!" "That's besides the point, you idiot!" she yelled. "You've got a harem pretty much now, and its because of your stupidity that we have another joining our ranks!" "What." Rez was having a hard time keeping up with all these revelations- it had been a big day and Am wasn't helping things. "Dragons are a 'this is my Mate for life' kind. 'Marriages' are settled by the female entering her heat period, and the first to mate her- or kill any other prospective mates- becomes her mate for life. You saved her from getting raped, during her heat cycle, you killed her attacker. Put two and two together, please." "No. No no no. I had enough trouble keeping the fact that you are here from my bosses- they cant see Belle, or Lily, or Eri- and Kara swims out whenever they come by. How am I going to protect a dragon in heat from them?" "I tell him he's got a supernatural harem, and he's worrying about hiding a dragon. At least he has his priorities straight." she muttered. She was quiet for a minute. "Well, two things are going our way right now. One, she's not in her heat cycle anymore- whatever you did to her turned it off real quick." That was good news. "The other?" "No one even slightly suspects that you killed a human. I did some hacking, and they think that a human stumbled off after getting mugged and blowing something up. Apparently the DNA came back for a guy on the run from the cops anyway, so no one is really looking into it too far." "What's the catch?" "They know you've got your first rune, and they want to know why. You arent exactly known for being all for the rules, but they're giving you the benefit of the doubt since its your first. We might have a visitor coming in a few weeks." Rez sighed, he now knew he was in the deepest s**t he'd ever been in.
