Oh, its you. Im guessing you want me to tell you more? Well, I guess you've waited for me to find out more about this place, so... lets get a little immersed in my more recent past.
As I said before, I was running from what I thought of as a monster. Azzy doesnt have a true 'form' per se, but three equally valid 'bodies' that represent the different aspects of his personality. The side he was in was what we came to call 'Devil' Az, which I described before. With this thing after me, I ran back towards the city as fast as I could, positive that I was going to be at the very best, lunch. Well, at first he wasnt after me, I thought he would be, but he just kinda looked at me as I ran. The tentacles and such still were slicing up the various men and women who had stayed to take him out, but he just calmly looked at me as I was running. Then, when I was about half way to the gates, he took to the air. Now, to see anything in flight is breathtaking to say the least, but this was completely like something out of a storybook. I could feel something happening behind me, and I was physically unable to ignore the compulsion to look. When birds take flight, they have to push the air to hold themselves up. Angels do it different, its almost like they're part of the air. I stared as this creature with an almost deadly grace took to the sky like it was born to rule there. And then I remembered that I'd tried to shoot this thing, and began running again. Our cities, as Az told me, are actually both extremely advanced, and pitifully far behind most of our counterparts. The city is basic Dyakian stone, a substance that is comparable in look to Obsidian, and is roughly as strong as granite. On the inner portion of each stone, Runes are inscribed to keep out the more dangerous creatures, and to keep enemy cities from entering from the air. Once I was through the gate of the city, I thought I was safe. Little did I know, Az can easily ignore all but the most powerful of runes, and the ones he doesnt are just minor annoyances- Death wouldnt be too good at his job if something like a picture could stop him, right?
The streets were panicked, we were what passed for a city guard and an army here, so seeing an entire battalion wiped out in less than ten minutes, but one unknown creature, made almost everyone hysterical. I'd been one of the only survivors, but the corpses of the dead had disappeared around the same time the 'monster' had taken flight and vanished. I made my way back to the headquarters for the sector. It was run by a woman named Kareela. Kareela was far from the best at anything, but she knew things that no one else could, and thus she often was the first to know what to do. Slowly she'd worked her way up to a section leader, and then had gained her own sector by the age of 18. She was, for all intents and purposes, my boss. "Arina, Ive heard what was said to have happened, but the numbers are a bit unbelievable, considering we only sent out about 100 people. What was out there?" she'd asked me. I was still shaking from what I'd seen, how could you put something like that into words? "Im not sure what to say. We got there at about noon, and I'd taken a sniping position near the back. I saw someone take out a waterskin, take a drink, and then wash a bit of the sand off whatever it was." "Go on." "The sand around it was already glass, and I think the water had been like hitting glowing red metal with an Ice element, waking up that... thing. It took out nearly twenty people instantly, and I followed training and sniped its head." "I take it you missed?" she asked intently, I should've noticed that but... "No ma'm, I hit my target, as usual. The vauge headlike appendage moved with the force, and then the creature focused on me. I-" "Ran, the intelligent thing to do when you have no way of combating the enemy." She muttered a few curses under her breath, and then told me to get checked out with the medical team.
How can I explain how I felt then? I think... I felt at the time it had been too easy. The town in question wasnt a major place, it wasnt even a place with good tactical advantage, so we didnt know what to think. And we didnt know that Azzy had already joined the populace. Weeks passed by without issue, but I wasnt called back to the main towns. Life was war, with about two years of peace in between, but no one knew who could've created something like Azzy. Azzy didnt mean to, and as someone who doesnt really get close to people I can understand that his kidlike nature didnt allow him to think of such dire consequences as what he'd set off, but...
On the continent, there were roughly six major powers that held a ruler in their ranks. As a police force, we were not extremely powerful, but had ties to those that were- and strange things like this never go well when everyone wants to kill everyone else. The first declaration happened about a month afterward. Serikan is a kingdom of Atim that has ties to the first 'settlers' of the continent, and is a powerful country with strong magic and science. The city where Azzy had touched down was a member of Serikan, and such a creature suddenly appearing made the higherups suspicious of their neighbors- it was also, I found out later, a good excuse to declare war on our closest neighbor, Mirin, a country dedicated to Magic. But first, they were going to have something wipe our city off the map, to get the public on their side.
