Alex was a skilled fighter, the best in her village. She had never been taught, but had learned from previous failures. She was practicing in her usual spot down by the docks. No-one ever came here. It was a dangerous journey through the forest, or so they thought. Alex found it peaceful, walking through the dark forest by herself. She had never encountered any danger in these parts. But she’d never tell anyone that. It was nice to have her spot where she couldn’t be bothered.
After practicing she walked down the few rotting wooden steps to the water. She kicked off her shoes and dipped her toes in the water. It was perfect. She laid back to look at the clouds. Alex never understood how people saw pictures in them, they were just clouds. She concentrated very hard but yet, no pictures. People often said she had no imagination. She did, but she was more practical. She got up and continued her practice.
As she was sprinting across the sand, she tripped over a log that was half buried and fell into the sand. Her ankle began bleeding. She sighed and got up. She limped over to where she had left her shoes. She sat down and, after wrapping some cloth around her ankle, slipped her shoes on.
Alex limped up the wooden steps and entered the forest. Her ankle was throbbing. It took Alex over a half an hour to make it halfway through the part of the forest between the dock and her village. It wouldn’t have taken as long if she hadn’t kept tripping. Again, she tripped, and as she was getting up she heard a noise behind her.
The smell of blood often lured the wild animals. Alex wasn’t scared though, this animal didn’t sound big. She continued to stare in the direction the noise came from. “Better safe than sorry” she told herself. She heard a snuffling sound coming closer. Her hands began shaking. “Keep it together” she reminded herself “Its just an animal”
As the huge, furry beast broke through the bushes Alex stifled a scream. This was by far the biggest animal she had ever seen. It was bigger then a bear, with teeth like a tiger. She began backing away slowly, her eyes locked on the monster. Alex tripped over a root and gasped as it lunged for her.
The giant creature sunk its long, sharp, yellow teeth into her injured ankle. Alex cried out in pain and tried to pull free. It clamped its teeth down harder. She bit her lip to hold back the scream as pain shot up her leg. The animal began dragging her into the deepest park of the forest. Alex twisted her body around and searched for something to hold on to. It was so dark now she could barely make out her surroundings. She began to scream.
