Elaine crept throught the woods toward where she heard that the most powerful Demons resided. With her wand tucked in her boot, her spellbook in her back pocket, and her dagger in her belt, she felt safe - enough. Her dark hood hid her caramel colored hair, and her keen blue eyes from all who wished to identify her. She was hated, as well as loved. Though none knew how dangerous this small, seventeen year old could be.
A branch snapped to her left. She crouched low, her hand at her belt. A warlock stumbled through the brush, a bow piercing its thick skin. Blood seeped slowly from the wound. Without a sound Elaine had shot toward it, slicing its throat with her dagger. The warlock fell. Dead without a sound. She cleaned her dagger on her jeans and stood up.
"Stupid creature" Elaine muttered as she thrust her dagger back in the sheath.
She looked around, searching for any unseen witnesses. None. As usual. Elaine kicked the warlock's lifeless body to the side and continued on through the forest. She brushed her bangs out of her eyes, and adjusted her hood. She was wasting time.
As the sky darkened, the trees began to thin out. She was almost out of the forest. Beyond that, was the Demon's residence. The same residence that she had been searching for five years to find.
Elaine reached the fringe of trees. An expanse of buildings rose up in front of her. She crouched behind a group of shrubs. Elaine watched silently until the sound of screaming filled her ears. Her sensitive ears located the sound. It was coming from a very small boy who was being dragged out from a large building. He was being taken to another building that had tiny, barred windows. Elaine recognized it to be some kind of prison.
"Poor kid" She whispered.
When the boy and his captors were gone from her sight, she dashed out from her hideout in the trees. She pressed herself to the wall and crept around to the back, dagger in hand. She planned on doing all in her power to save the young boy, along with any other prisoners the Demons kept. So they would not have the same fate as her. A soldier. But also, a prisoner of war.
