The doors slammed open with a loud thud as they hit the walls. Xander walked through the now open doors, Ami and Martina behind him and Talon on his shoulder.
The king sat upon the throne, his staff across his lap and his snake familiar coiled on the ground. His red robes lay about him, making him blend into the throne.
"Belfor! I have come to take you out. You are not worthy to be the king! You bring only distruction to Elodar!" Xander roared.
"My dear daughter, why have you neglected your duty? Have you sided with this upsurper?" Belfor said as he cocked his head to one side.
"Fa..father, I...I will not...let you...you...rule," Ami stuttered as her father's gaze rested on her.
Raising a hand, a box appeared before Belfor. At the sight, Ami shook as she remembered the foul magic that bound her heart within that box.
"I will just have to do it myself!" Belfor roared as the box lit on fire.
In a sweeping motion, a wave of water swept from Xander's hand, crashing into a barrier around the burning box. Xander jumped aside as a bolt of lightning scorched the floor and another wave of water erupted from his hand, again blocked by a barrier around the box.
"You'll never save her. My magic is too strong for the likes of you. You are barely a beginning mage compared to me!" Belfore roared in delight as wave after wave crashed against his barrier.
Ami fell to the floor, pain ripping though her body as the flames started to lick at her heart. Kneeling beside her, Martina tried to help but there was nothing she could do. She was new to magic, only knowing a few weak spells. The two knelt there as the sounds of spell battle rung behind them.
Dodgeing another bolt, Xander disappeared as his feet touched the floor, reappearing by the box. Belfor just let out a laugh as the barrier blocked Xander's hands from touching the box.
"I told you, and look, as the box fades from this world, so does your girlfriend," Belfor laughed as Ami slumped to the ground.
As her head touched the floor, Xander dissolved again into the air, hate in his eyes.
As Xander reappeared high in the air, Belfor dodged the clumsy punch. The spell duel had become a physical duel. The two men danced through the air, Belfor dodging clumsy punches from Xander, using simple touch spells to send Xander back only to come at Belfor again and again.
"I sho0uld've done thjis long ago! You're nothing! I thought I was in trouble when I saw that you had come back. Your magic felt like it could rival mine, but you're just a spoiled brat!" Belfore taunted as he dodged another blow.
Landing on the floor, Xander felt himself breathing heavily as Belfor laughed from above. His spells were easily beaten and his punches could not land. He was beaten.
"Xander! Trust in your magic. You are strong enough to beat him. You have me with you!" Talon roared as his body grew to its draconic true size.
Xander puched his dragon's words out of the way and reached deep to let loose with a fire that would burn Belfor well into the afterlife. Dark flames wrapped around his hands and a slight wailing could be heard drifting in the air.
"You say I'm not good for the kingdom? Look at yourself!" Belfor yelled as he dived, his staff leading, crackling with lightning.
A dark shadow flashed in front of Xander, sending him flying back, the flames dissolving as he landed on his back.
Climbing back to his feet, Xander's mouth dropped open. Belfor's staff stuck from Talon's side, as he lay on the ground. He ran over and craddled Talon's head.
"Talon! You stupid dragon!" Xander cried as tears rolled down his cheeks.
"A fitting end to a wretched dragon, soon to be followed by its master," Belfor laguhed as he yanked his staff from Talon's side.
"Trust your magic. i know you can beat him," Talon breathed as his body went weak.
"Now, let's cause some more pain for the young man!" Belfor laughed as he turned towards Martina and her familiar.
Xander just looked at his dragon's lifeless body, the gap in his soul now growing as the life flowed out of Talon. He dimly heard Belfor's words and saw through clouded eyes as a single bolt of lightning raced towards Martina.
The botl slammed against a barrier of green light, shattering into sparks. Belfor could feel a power growing behind him, as the light of the room took on an emerald glow.
"I am her master! No one hurts my students!" Xander roared as he stood up.
Reaching out his hand, a shaft of light settled by his side. Gripping it, it melted away to reveal a staff of silver wood, a dragons head on top with a fist-sized emerald in it's mouth. His shirt and pants changed to forest green and his cloak whipped about him, shining the silver of his dragon's scales.
"You can't be! You're too young to be have reached Magister!" Belfor screamed as he look upon Xander's change.
"Back down and you can live. You do not need to lose your life over this!"
Belfor sneered and loosed another volley of lightning bolts at Martina. Xander's appeared in front of Martina, blocking the bolts with his body as they broke through the shield.
"I knew you were weak! You have no power left!" Belfore laughed as Xander 's back slumped, which turned to fear as he stood up, dusting the soot from his cloak.
"As I said, no one hurts my students!" Xander roared as his cloak melted and turned into dragon wings.
Jumping into the air, Xander raised his staff before him and gripped it with both hands. The emerald started to glow and the eyes of the dragon opened to show two more emeralds.
"Meteor Swarm!"
Globes of molten rock rained from the emerald, slamming into the castle floor.
As the dust settled, Xander landed and no sign of Belfor could be seen, except for his broken staff in 3 places on the floor.
"You won!" Martina hollered as she wrapped her arms around Xander.
Looking into his eyes, Martina could see tears rolling down his cheeks.
"Don't cry for Ami and Talon. I bet they're watching you and celebrating your victory!" Martina smiled, trying to cheer him up.
"I cry only partially for them. I also cry for Belfor. He was a good man, just corrupted with the power of rulership," Xander sighed as he huged Martina back.
