For years now, the price of "premium" items has been soaring. Gaia refuses to properly address this issue. They won't make old items available in shops for gold, because apparently the term "timed exclusive" only has meaning for videogames. They won't put restrictions on how much items can be sold for, either, claiming a "free market". The truth is, though, that there's two factors behind Gaia's inaction. One, they're afraid of backlash from users who would be offended by the loss of their "elite" status. Two, inflation benefits their wallets. If prices are outrageous, then more people will "invest" in Gaia cash to get items, even if they don't need/want them, so they can try to play the Marketplace, and get their millions before the price of the single item they do want catches up and rises another 100mil. Yes...by not putting in price control measures, Gaia is making your avatar "pay to win". Only, you pay, and nobody wins.
However, there is a solution, and that solution is...
Ostracism!
Ostracism is defined as "exclusion from a society or group". In ancient Greece, people were even able to vote to have people ostracised, and those people would be banished! Now, I know what you're thinking, "How does that have anything to do with inflation in the marketplace?" Well, here's the answer: You combat inflation by making it undesirable to inflate prices.
So you see, it's really simple. Pick a price point...let's say one million gold. Any time you see someone asking more than that for an item (any item) you put them on your ignore list. To take it a step farther, refuse applications to your RP threads from anyone wearing a "premium" item, or charge a "play tax" based on the market price of the avatar. Tell them, "Well, you were able to afford 10mil to get that [premium] you're wearing, so you can afford 10k to be in this RP."
If enough Gaians do this, see how long it takes for the market prices to go down.
