Stories from the Soul
Away In The Dark Chapter I
In the distance there is a horrible sound, a sound that makes you shiver on the warmest nights. One that makes everyone go indoors and lock everything, well most people that is. Sitting under an overhang, in an alleyway behind a liquor store, sits a figure. The figure is curled up in a tattered trench coat, knees as close to the chest as possible. This figure seems to at least be 23 give or take a few years also it is a male. He looks as if he has traveled plenty or lives on the streets of this god-forsaken town. He has been under the overhang for quite some time now; he is soaked to the bone. The sound is coming closer to him. He stands and starts quickly the opposite direction. The sound is gaining on him, he vanishes and there is a wolf like animal running. He turned onto a main road; another wolf ran up beside him on his right. They keep running with the screeching and its glow still on their tails. * * * *
The glowing figure finally stops chasing them and goes the other direction. The two wolves slow down to a trot instead of a full on dash. Both of the wolves glance at each other, nod, and go down an alley. They stop in front of a well-used apartment door. Each shakes their fur of water, they are gone and the same young man and another man appear. The new man opens the door and walks in with the other following.
“Well that was fun, don’t u think Michael?” the new man chuckles. “Ohh yeah, great fun, Darrien.” Michael snaps back. “Awe what’s wrong, cat bite your tail?” Darrien mocks. “No I’m tired, hungry, and wet,” Michael growled.
Michael walks into the kitchen to find some food. The fridge is just about empty except for some eggs, a half a quart of milk, a couple of bottles of beer, half a block of cheese, half a package of lunchmeat, and half a loaf of bread. Darrien starts a fire in the fireplace, which is on the far left of the front door. Michael comes out of the kitchen with an astonished look upon his face.
“What? Did you not find what you were looking for?” Darrien asked curiously. “Well… I figured you would have… well a bit more then what is in there.” “Ohh that’s why you are looking like that. No, I like to keep it simple” Darrien laughs “Ah I see. Well then, anything new going on in the clan I should know about?” Michael asks as he flops on the old ugly vintage couch in front of the fireplace. “Hmm…Lets see how long have u been gone now, about what five months” “Yes” Getting irritated “Yes we all know how long I have been away from here, don’t rub it in.” “Okay, okay, sorry. No not much just the same ol’ same ol’…… Ohh wait we have a new member, her name is…. Umm… Ohh Violet.” “Ohh, good the clan is still growing” Michael chuckles. “Yeah slowly but surely. So what were you doing for those five months?” “None of your business what I was doing and where I was. I’m back now, and that’s that, now I’m ganna go to sleep.” Michael says as he lies out on the couch and puts his arms behind his head. “Okay, sorry, it’s none of my business.” Darrien says as he vanishes and a beautiful dark red wolf appears, curls up in an arm and falls asleep.
Michael looks over at Darrien rolls his eyes and falls asleep slowly, not wanting to, though greatly wanting to.

There is a soft knock at the door barely a cat could hear, and then it grows louder ever so slightly. The door opens and in walks a woman. This woman looks to be about 29; she has short, dirty-dish-water blonde hair and is wearing a long cloak with a symbol on the back and as the clip. She shuts the door quietly and surveys the scene. Sees Michael lying on the couch, soaking wet and Darrien curled up in an armchair. The lady walked over and stoked the fire a bit and sat at the end of the couch, waiting for them to wake.
“My gosh, how long can these boys sleep, I’ve been here over an hour now.” The woman exclaimed.
Her voice was a little too loud and woke Michael up. Michael opened his eyes ever so slightly, saw the lady and jumped up noticing who she was. He straightened himself and bowed.
“Ohh so you are alive, long time no see Michael.” The woman laughed. “Sorry I had no idea you were here Julia, and yes it has been a while, about four years now.” “Yes, about that we all thought you were dead. No word from you and then Darrien tells us that you were only gone for five months from Orley and yet you have been gone from Silverston for four years. Darrien told us three days ago that you were ganna come here, so they sent me to see you.” “Yes I know and I have my reasons for being gone for so long. So they sent dear o Julia Bloodcross to come check up on me.” Michael chuckles as he sits in the armchair opposite the one Darrien is still asleep in. “Ohh don’t flatter yourself, I’m here to actually tell you that we have a new member” “Yes I know her name is Violet” “I don’t like to be called that, I’d rather you call me Rose.” A voice announces from behind him in the shadows of the unlit corner.
A woman about the same age as Michael walks out of the corner and over to the couch. She is wearing baggy black pants, a long-sleeved dark burgundy shirt that ties at the top, combat boots, and a black trench coat with the same symbol as the one on Julias’ cloak. Roses’ hair is a dark blood red with highlights of dark violet and is down her back braided. Michael jumps up and bows and sits back down.
“Sorry, miss I had no idea.” Michael answered quickly. “Ohh I know” Rose snickered “Now, now, this is Violet ‘Rose’ Storm our newest member” Julia told. “I can tell. So how is it you came to be in such a situation?” Michael asked curiously looking over her like she was a new machine or car. “I rather not talk about it now or ever.” Rose snaps and glares at Michael.
Darrien stretches out, stands up turns and lies back down. All the time with his eyes closed.
“So Michael you awake yet?” Darrien asked sleepily. “Yes I am, as are our guest.” “What?!?!” Darrien yells as he becomes human again and stands, noticing whom it is and bows. “I had no idea you were here, I’m so sorry, why didn’t you wake me Michael?” “Hmmm…they just woke me up practically,” “It’s okay Darrien, I figured you need your rest.” Julia said. “Ohh and Michael doesn’t, I’m pretty sure he needs more then me.” “Well I had a few questions for Michael and they were slightly answered.” “Hi, V-Rose, how are you-” peers out a curtain to the outside, “this fine morning?” Darrien asks almost calling her the V-word, Violet. “Considering the circumstances” looks around “I’m pretty good.” “That is good, if you two are hungry I am sorry I do not have much, and Rose please sit down” “No, I rather stand.” Leans against a wall near the kitchen. “Ohh that’s alright, we have to go soon anyways,” Julia announces. “Ohh okay then.” “All of us have to go soon” “What?!?!” Both Rose and Michael chimed. “Yes we have to go to Crystal Lake in Dragonshadow Coast.” “Why if I may ask?” Darrien wondered why and what was there for them to go. “Because I said we need to go there.”
