I still think the issue of Watchmen in which Jon leaves for mars is one of the most glorious poetic things every to appear in a graphic novel. The beautiful spiderweb of word and image, each iteration connected in different ways to evoke love, loss, time, alienation, heartbreak, and the terrible beauty of broken things, each new connection of meaning, like facets on a jewel.
Rorschach is the biggest fan favorite, but it's Jon I really "get."
Side note: Sometimes I wonder why, with all the lesbian and gay inclusion, all the super heroes were white (I'm not counting Jon as he was white before he was blue). I mean, they could imagine a gay male couple and a lesbian kicking a**, but not any POC, even though there were non-super hero folks of colour in the supporting cast.
