The year was 1346, when the world was lost in a desperate outcry of despair and suffering. The bubonic plague raged like a relentless army against the helpless population. The sickly sweet stench of death hung over the silent streets of the unkempt villages as death carts creaked slowly over the dirty cobblestones, collecting the limp corpses of the pitiful plague victims. Beneath the dry, cracked dirt, the sad remains of the unnamed victims were buried in mass graves, forgotten by their ailing kin and never to be spoken of again. Families were split apart by the bitter hand of death. Children were left to fend for themselves on the empty streets after their parents succumbed to the terrible plague. Rats began their filthy reign, taking over the homes of the deceased, gnawing their diseased way into the vulnerable flesh of the dead and freely partaking in the victim's molded, useless food supply while crows shrieked their dissonant song at the gray sky.
