I dont think people really understand what happens when someone chooses the so called "dark" side. I mean, most of the time its not a choice of 'good' and 'evil' but between 'oh god, we're gonna die' and 'oh god, we're gonna be tortured, and then die'. Not much of a choice right? But you always get the people who will complain their a** off, even though they'd make the same choice if they were in that position.... But Im getting ahead of myself.
Hope and I traveled uneventfully for three days, and made it to Forest's Edge, where I was to meet my many times removed cousins, the Cheshires. Jarid was tall and muscled, alot like the guys who beat the crap out of me in school. Jade, or Kit to those close to her, was very... not there. She listened, but when she looked at you, it was like she was looking at something else, very far away. It was mostly uneventful in Edge, and it allowed me to get a feel for what had happened to me a little more in depth.
Alice, the original one, had come through wonderland's gate by catching the white rabbit, something that is supposed to be impossible. She wasnt a delicate flower, but more of a rough and tumble survivalist, and drove wonderland crazy with her drug hazed mind. Despite the troubles she had brought, Wonderland stabilized because it had anchored to her brain- so when she came through the second time, she got exactly what she wanted for providing stabilization to the land- namely the Cheshire. The reason the Cheshire had been picked is because he was the only one who acted as Alice's buffer, he wasnt affected by her warping Wonderland's reality because he didnt care, and therefor nothing she did fazed him in the slightest. Jarid said that he'd had a trick that had to do with the eyes, something that all of his family could do if they just knew how. "... but we dont know exactly what it did, so there's no figuring it out. We dont even have a hint." he said. Dressed in new clothes, ones that provided better protection, I nodded. "That makes sense I guess. But what about the other Alices?" That conversation took more than my brain could handle, but I'll try to work through it with you guys... Apparently wonderland's top brass didnt know exactly what tying their reality to the Psyche meant, so they were not prepared when next Alice was born. The land tossed and turned until it reach something resembling a countryside with a checkerboard like coloring. Slowly they came to realize that It began to shape a map of the current Alice's mind, making the land reflect the mental state. "See, if someone was simple minded, the land and creatures would reflect that. There would be little strife, and the world would be small and flat. If the person had a devious mind, the land is confusing, a fuddled mind makes the land random." "So what did I make the land?" "You made it real." "What?" "How can I put this... Ah, I know. A person's perspective is made up of their experiences, correct?" "Yeah, I guess." "Well, you have a ton of bad experiences that stick with you, making the land dark and dismal. Brutality on you and a unruly imagination make you easily able to imagine terrible images of darkness, but you belief in 'right' allows for instances of greath innocence or survival power. Take in example a tale of a 'good' Black Knight. He isnt the shining example of moral right, however, he still saves the town, rescues the princess and slays the dragon. While most people go for the White Knight hero on the Shining Steed, you never could visualize such an individual, while you could, in some person or creature, see a kind of protector. Your mind is highly developed in some areas with a tendency towards depression, thus the Dark, complex world we live in today. Denizens and Warped are formed from the neutral and dark aspects of your psyche, while the helpful or fearful citizens are formed of the lighter aspects. In a way, Im saying that you could be the sanest Alice yet, and the most balanced." I kinda thing I was beginning to feel proud, at least until he said, "And that is what makes this so dangerous." Afraid, I had to ask. "What do you mean, dangerous?" "The World wont exist if you die, but because you are so literal minded, death really is the end for you here, just as dying would be in the Other World. You have few fantastical beliefs, and ressurection isnt one of them. You die, we all die." Great, another thing on my plate to worry about...
