Dress Up Doll
Could you break me,
Make me,
Into something worth having?
Scorch me,
Burn me,
Until I cannot recognize myself?
I spend so long listening to you,
That I’ve begun to think in your voice.
You stand beside me in the bathroom mirror,
And use that smile, that second guesses my choice.
Do you know how to save me,
Take me,
To a place of lights and butterflies?
Bring me,
Show me,
The pathway to another side of life?
I’ve been told so many times,
That I don’t measure up to someone‘s height,
So I stretch out on my toes, square my shoulders,
Strain my heart and smile bright.
My face is like a canvas to you,
That you’d like to paint up an hang by your side.
One that’s filthy and torn, don’t let me forget,
And the hardest part, is knowing I tried.
You can’t help me,
Save me,
From whatever I am.
A crack,
An impurity,
I’m a stain you can’t stand.
Scrub with bleach, to wash me from your hands.
The chemicals burn, but it’s me you can’t stand.
So you rub at my features to erase who I am,
The pathway to purity only lends to my end.
