When I see you at first, my heart lightens. Every care evaporates
Into a silken mist.
When I hear you laugh, my heart beats happily
Like an enchanted drum
When you smile, I can't wish for anything more
Than to smile along with you

When you are hurt, pain reaches down my soul
Digging at me, clawing and burning
When you are scared, I will put myself between you
and anything in the world to keep you safe
When you are angry, I will take the pain
If only to see you smile again

When I hurt you, anger you, or cause you pain
All I can do
Is take the pain in silence

But the true pain
Is knowing I was the cause.

But I will always be there for you
