Matsuda stood there, trumpet in hand, then lifting it and blowing on it, a sad, horrible sound coming from it's funnel-shaped exit. He smiled and looked up to the air. "Oh! Once upon a time, in the Village of Avon-On-Calling there were four young men." he smiled, turning to four fake cut-out buildings behind him, all dark. One was illuminated as a blonde man stepped out. "There was Mello." "Hi, I'm Mello! And I'm the Cobbler!" he said. As then another figure stepped from the building next to it. "And Near." Matsuda added on. "Hi, I'm Near, and I'm the Tailor." the albino introduced himself. Again, another building. "And L." "Hi, I'm L, and I'm the Innkeeper." he said, no emotion in his voice. The light then shined upon a seemingly pathetic looking boy. "And Matt..." frowned the dark-haired Town-Crier. But the redhead had a large, goofy smile on his face. "Hi, I'm Matt!" but this soon lost enthusiasm. "...And I'm out of work..." "You see," Matsuda started again. "Matt was out of work because of the princess. He was so focused upon her that he couldn't concentrate on getting a job." The three other men crowded around Matt, who was now looking rather sullen. "Hey, Matt," Mello began. "You've got to stop daydreaming about that princess. She's a high-born monarch and you're not." "I can't help it, Mello! I love her so deeply, I would cut off my right arm to please her!" Suddenly, the sound of horses pulling a carriage drew close. "Hark!" L, Near and Mello shouted with mixed enthusiasm, before the redhead of their party could muster a delayed, "hark!", himself. There in the mud, across the way, sat a carriage. A blonde beauty, oddly resembling Mello, hung out of it's window. A brunette man was beside it, giving orders to hsi assistant. "Heave. Let's Ho. Pull quickly horses, dislodge your horse." he commanded. Near then pointed to the fair-haired beauty. "The princess!" "Help! Help! Here we are, stuck in the mud in some filthy little town. Help!" her shrill voice whined, then batting her eyelashes and poking her chin with her finger. Mello's mouth drpped at the sight. "Wow, what a great lookin' chick!" "She's beautiful..." Matt blushed. He watched the knight mentioned before walk over to the carriage window and laen next to it. He jumped as the princess, named Mellina, grabbed the overshirt of his armor and brought him closer, in a threatening manner. "LIGHT. YOU BETTER GET ME OUT OF THE MUD!" her once sweet-ish voice now deep and manly. Then placing her finger back to her chin. "She's the most beautiful thing I've ever laid eyes on. Look at those side-burns. That body..." Mello rambled, as L stuffed a rag into his mouth to shut him up. "Cool it, Mello. Cool it." said Near. "Heave! Ho!" Light called to his assistant again, a man called Mikami. "I'm heaving!" he replied, pushing on the carriage. "Then ho a little!" "All-right, I'm ho-ing!" Light strolled back over to the princess, stating poetically, "Oh, fair jewel of the East, I will have you out of here in but just a moment," before adding under his breath, "I knew we should've joined Triple A." "Look," Mellina barked. "Somebody better come get me OUT of this mud!" Matt seized the opportunity, and sprinted over to the vehicle, shouting, "Oh, fair princess! I have loved you from afar, lo these many moons! May I carry you across the mud?" Mellina narrowed her eyes at the peasant boy, sizing him up. "What? You carry me across the mud? Fat chance. I'm a ******** princess. You, sir, are nothing but a peasant. A wayward serf. The lowest of the low!" "...so you've heard of me," Matt finally replied.
She sighed. "I will honor your spine with a walk across it, down, peasant!" she commanded. He smiled his signature dumb smile. "M-My spine thanks you...!" he said, crawling to the growl and laying down. He squinted in pain as a large, black boot stepped on his back and made his spine crack and pop. Still lying in that spot, he looked up to the princess. "There's a 50 cent toll at the other end~." he smirked. She fixed her hair and looked down to him. "Shut up, or I'll have you paved." she sniffed. "Except for official traffic, of course." he added.
Light looked back to Mikami, ordering, "Water the horses, dislodge the carriage, and clean the erasers." The dark-haired man nodded in affirmation, watching as his master strode across Matt's back, making him whimper. "My lady--" Mellina grabbed the front of Light's armour. "LIGHT, YOU BETTER GET THIS CARRIAGE OUT OF THE MUD!" "'Tis stuck very deep, my lady... 'twill be a time before we can leave this place again." "Oh, 'twill it, now?" she asked, flipping her hair, sarcasm dripping from every word. "If you don't get your a** in gear, and get me out of this crap-town in ten minutes, I'm not going to marry you. So what do you think of that?"
"Wow, what a bummer." he muttered, not very meaningful tones hinted at this. Mellina elbowed him in the side and growled lowly. "Open the door, creep." "A Romeo ad Juliet they're not!" Matt said to himself. Light opened the carriage door and bowed a bit. "Thy carriage, fair pearl." he stated dully. Matt cringed as he was stepped on again by Mellia, then by Light. L looked at the brunette from afar. "Ooh, he's mean." he whispered to the others. "Very mean, very mean..." they uttered. The princess then innocently sat in her carriage and smiled, finger to chin. The other village residents then rushed over to Matt. "What're you doing in the mud? C'mon, get up..." they all said frantically, helping him up as L dusted him off. Matt's face beared a large scowl.
Not long after that, Mikami and Light approached L's inn. "Hi, innkeeper! Ho, innkeeper, innkeeper!" the auburn-haired man called. "What ho, Sire?" Light pointed to the ground. "Grovel, grovel!" "No, not grovel, it's concrete tile!" L surpressed a cheeky grin. "Meat, wine, cream spirits, and a surprise dessert, innkeeper!" "Ah, but Sire, this is but a poor in. We don't have such things." "...then send out for sandwiches." L wrang the dishrag in his hands. "Right, sandwiches, yeah."
The food was brought out to the two, as Matsuda then stood in the corner. "See the knights eat food." he frowned. L brought out more and more things to the table, along with help from the others. "See them spill their food." he said, a smirk now playing at his thin lips. But, after they ate, they did not know a certain Matt was listening to their plan. " Now is our opportunity. You'll take her to the tower, you'll torture her, you'll kill her, and then, you'll stab yourself to death!" Light laughed evily. "I-I better go warn Mellina!" Matt gasped, then running away to the carriage. He arrived to see her still there, as innocent-looking as always. "My princess, my princess!" he called. "My bridge, my bridge!" she called back to him. "I have news!" he replied, panting slightly. "The evil Light is--" But Matt was unable to finish, because at that moment, Light himself returned bearing leftovers for the princess, Mikami in tow. Instinctively, Matt dropped to the ground, muttering, "Well, here I am again," as he was tramped on. "Glad to see you're back," the brunette man told him, looking down. "...it's nice to--ow!--be back."
Light then offered the food items on the tray to Mellina. She smiled and clasped her hands together. "Ohh! My very favorite, leftovers, mmn!" she then popped a grape into her mouth and smiled at the taste. "Tis' time we were away." Light hurried. Mellina then grabbed him threateningly again. "Hold it just a minute, buster!" she snapped. "Never--." she said, yanking a large locket from her neck, untangling it from her hair. "Ehem. Never let it be said a princess didn't reward a favor!" she sighed, throwing the locket down to an eager Matt, who caught it excitedly. "What's this?" "It's junk." "I don't deserve it!" "Yes, I'm hip. But wear it anyway. It looks good on you~." she smirked. "Come, Light, let's away!" she snapped to him. Mellina went to point to the beyond but her elbow had gotten stuck. "L-Let's away!" she finally finished. "Mikmai, let us away!" he yelled to his assistant. "Horses, let us away!" he told the two men on the horses. "Yeeah, man! Let's sprint!" one of them laughed. Matt was left in the mud as the vehicle moved away.
"Any more of this s**t, and I'm going to have to find a new princess to worship," he muttered, getting up off the ground and brushing himself off. Matt trudged back over to the inn, and began trying to explain Light's ploy to kill the princess, getting more and more animated as he spoke. "...And he's going to murder her in the tower, a remote castle, protected by a scary forest and a im-p-enatrable dragon!" "A what...?" Near asked. "An im-p-enetrable dragon!" "So, what do you intend to do about that, Matt?" the white-haired boy spoke again. "...I'm gonna miss her when she's gone."
L then spoke up. "What about that locket? It's made of tin, it's worthless." he pointed to Matt's neck. Matt then lifted it to his lips and bit into it, then releasing the bite as smoke filled the room and a woman appeared, coughing and shooing away the smoke. ...Was that Linda? "Who called upon The Fairy Of The Locket?" she demanded to know. "Locket? Oh, well, I guess I did." Matt said uneasily. "Well, call back later!" she ordered, and the group took notice that but one side of her hair was done up in an intricate ponytail. The other side hung limply. "I was having my hair done!" The faerie, Linda?, prepared to disappear, but Near halted her at once. "Wait, wait! You do not seem to understand. Princess Mellina is in danger." "Mellina... Mellina... the one who's always complaining?" L nodded. "Right." "The selfish, concetied, obnoxious, overbearing one.. oh, with a German accent?" "Yeah, that's the one." the redhead nodded. "Yeah, right!" nodded L in unison. "Well, uh, let's do something. She's got a lot on the ball!" she clapped. Then pointing to each man. First, Mello. "You, you shall cut me a pair of shoes that can scale high walls." she ordered. He nodded. "Sh-shoes that can s-scale high walls..." he repeated. She then pointed to Near. "You. You shall sew me a suit of maille that nothing can penetrate." she said. He nodded like the other. "... send you a suit in the ... in the mail...right!" he muttered. "Yeah!" Linda smiled, probably at the boy's cute mistake. She then pointing to L. "And you. You shall forge a kitchen knife into a sword that can cut through iron!" she bounced. "Yeah, right, forge, right..." he laughed. "Right."
"Oh, what about me?" asked Matt anxiously. Linda's face went dull. "You'll collect unemployment while your friends are working." He didn't like that reply, he then gave her a face. "Then, when all is ready, you shall take these magic things, find your way to the tower, and save the princess!" she smiled. His blue eyes lit up like Sapphires over a candle.
( Will Matt, peasant of Jeevas, be able to save Mellina? O: Tune in laer to find out! )
