He Fell
We don’t know how… but he did.
He was falling from a tower.
A tower on fire.
But I don’t know how far up he was.
And maybe,
He slipped?
He jumped?
He might have wanted to do the impossible
And fly?
… probably not. But,
Maybe just for a little while
Just to have the experience so he didn’t have to die in agony
But he fell.
But he flew.
But he knew
And he felt.
Felt the wind around him
Gravity pulling him down
The ground coming fast, but maybe just one sound,
The wind, whistling in his ears
Him, like others, were free.
They fell?
They jumped?
We don’t know.
But we also don’t know what it felt like
To fly.
To have the wind around us,
To feel like we were a bird,
Doing the impossible.
Not having a machine around us to be in the sky.
Well, that’s what I take form their experience.
And I know,
They were falling
No matter what they accidently did or what they chose to do.
They were falling.
And now I wonder what it felt like.
What it felt like to fly.
For them it might have been terrifying.
Watching the world come closer to catch you.
Falling to your death.
But,
I don’t blame them.
If they jumped,
Fell,
I don’t blame them if they made that choice but I do console the ones who didn’t
The ones who slipped.
The ones; who were trying to get fresh air from that deathly smoke
So they wouldn’t have to suffocate to death.
I don’t blame them.
I don’t blame any of the ones who died.
Even if they weren’t falling
All I wonder is,
What did it feel like,
To fly?
