Kiera and Johan were standing in front the stairs that led to the palace. She was wearing a long black skirt, a white wrapped top and the black sleeves that Shanette had given her. Johan wore his normal clothes but with an added bowtie. The sun had just peaked over the horizon less than an hour ago. “So your boyfriend’s coronation is today?” Johan teased.
“Shut up! He is not my boyfriend!” she defended, maybe a little louder than necessary.
“Riiight, then why did we have to come this early?” They started climbing the stairs.
“Because he said to come this early!” Kiera’s face reddened with each statement.
“I distinctly remember reading that he said to come at any time.”
“You read my letter!?!”
“I was curious.”
“Just shut up!” Kiera fumed. Johan chuckled. The two of them reached the top of the stairs and surprisingly enough, Saeran was there to greet them, wearing nicer clothes (If that was even possible).
“Welcome, the celebration is just getting started.” Saeran led the way to the great hall where one of the tables off to the right was covered with food. The other two tables were stacked behind it. Off to the left was the orchestra still getting ready to play. At the far end were three steps that led up to two thrones, both with purple cushions and gold accents, the king was sitting in the one to the right. Towering behind the thrones was a huge stained glass window showing a giant, decorative, silver crown with purple amethysts, the same crown that the king wore.
Among the ten people already in the room, there were a few familiar faces around the room. “I invited Hardran,” He pointed over to Har who was, to no surprise, holding a bottle of ale. “And I believe you know of Ragir,” Saeran gestured towards a man by the orchestra.
“Is that really…?”Johan looked questioningly at Saeran who nodded. Johan rushed over to get caught up with an old friend.
Saeran relaxed a bit after Johan had left, He led Kiera over to the food knowing that she would want some kind of fruit. “I’m sure you wouldn’t want to re-meet my father after last time…”
“No…no offense but he can be kind of frightening.” She grabbed an apple and bit into it.
“Yeah, I understand, That’s why I try my hardest to stay on his good side. Actually being his only child now it’s not all that hard, but it was when Trina was here. By the way, try not to mention her around him, he is still a little shook up.”
“Of course.” A lot more people were entering and the orchestra had started to play, filling the room with the sweetest sound. Kiera could imagine Johan just standing there listening to the music, he loved classical music.
Hardran walked over to where they were standing. “Hey, you never told me you were the prince. I knew that name sounded familiar.” His voice was a little slurred due to the alcohol.
“You’re just now figuring that out?” Kiera laughed.
“Ha ha,” he laughed sarcastically. “Wait, don’t I know you?”
“Nope, you’ve never seen me in your life.”
“Oh okay, want to go ou-”
“No.”
“Ha ha,” Saeran laughed. “You just got dissed.”
“Well it’s good to know a formal stick in the mud isn’t going to be running the country.” Har smiled and trotted off to get another bottle of ale.
Johan was over by the orchestra talking to Ragir. “Wow, this placed filled up fast…with a lot of rich people. I bet Kiera is glad she left our daggers at home.”
“I’m surprised you came at all, I thought you hated the royal family.” A puff of smoke ascended from Ragir’s pipe.
“Yeah well, while Kiera was protecting the prince they must have gotten pretty close. Although if you ask her about it she’ll deny it,” Johan laughed.
“Teenagers are funny like that. Saeran comes over to my house every so often and he can’t stop talking about her. He is actually quite open with his feeling. It’s a little weird though that he is in love with my granddaughter.”
“Whoa whoa whoa, hold up! Granddaughter?!?!”
“She didn’t tell you?”
“No, she came home that night with tears running down her face. She came through the doors and straight into my arms.”
“Hmm, well…” Ragir proceeded to tell the rest of the story.
King Frederick wasn’t doing anything too interesting. He had just given orders to a soldier to restock the food.
Saeran noticed Hardran asking out every girl he saw, he consequently had a red face from all the slaps. “Hey Har.” Hardran hurried over. “The guards are watching you, I’d take a break from asking out every girl here.”
“Aww whatever, I’m getting hungry anyways.” Har laft leaving Kiera and Saeran alone again, surrounded by everyone else enjoying the party, that is.
“Hay Saeran?”
“Hm?”
“With a crowd this big wouldn’t you be the center of attention?” Kiera asked.
“Actually nobody actually knows what the prince looks like so to them I’m just another guest.” saeran couldn’t stop fumbling with the object in his pocket. “Well hey, I think I’m about to be proclaimed king, wish me luck.”
“You don’t need luck, you’ll be great!”
“Thanks.” Saeran jogged up to the front where his father was about to announce him.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” the kings voice boomed, silencing everybody. “The time has come for me to step down from the throne and let a new light shine through this land. And That light, is my son, Prince Saeran!” The audience roared in applause as Saeran modestly stepped up to his father. “I am honored to have been your king for so long, but now it is my son’s turn.” Saeran got down on his knees to be crowned as the King Frederick took off his crown. “Let it be known, that from this day forth, Saeran will be the King of Lombarton!” King Frederick proclaimed. He placed the crown on Saeran’s head and the audience roared with applause and whoops that wouldn’t end. All Kiera could do was smile.
“Thank you, thank you,” Saeran shouted over the crowd in a much less booming voice. “Thank you father, I hope that someday I will live up to, no, live past your reign!” Once again the audience cheered.
“But if it weren’t for one person in particular, I would not be standing here in front of you today! Kiera, why don’t you get on up here!”
Kiera was so shocked she just stood there with a half eaten apple in her hand as everyone stared at her. She sat the apple down and made her way up to Saeran, all the while the eyes were following her.
When Kiera got up there Saeran took her hands, which made her face turn as red as the apple she had just been eating. Saeran spoke loud enough for everyone to hear him but not so loud to take away from the mood of what he was about to say. “Kiera, you’ve helped me through so much, physically and mentally. There is an old saying ‘relationships are realized when you’ve lost them’ I find that to be completely true. A year was too long to be apart from you.” Saeran got down on one knee and took the diamond ring out of his pocket. “I love you Kiera, with everything that I am. To be away from you any longer would absolutely destroy me, will you marry me?”
Kiera was so overwhelmed and overjoyed she couldn’t think of what to say. Instead she lunged forward, almost tackling Saeran in her embrace. A tear rolled down her cheek, “Oh Saeran,” she whispered into his ear. “I love you too, so much.” She stepped back to let Saeran slip the ring onto her finger. Neither of them could do anything but smile and hug each other.

Kiera gazed into the mirror as some maids helped her get ready, “You look gorgeous milady.” Kiera was wearing a flowing white dress that split at the knees with something that made it sparkle when the light hit it just right. The straps were thin but just wide enough to cover the tops of her shoulders. She had golden lace-up sandals and a small amethyst circlet across her forehead. Also she held a bouquet of white roses.
She took a deep breath and stepped out into the hall where Johan, borrowing one of Ragir’s suits, waited to walk her down the aisle. “I can’t believe I’m actually getting married!” Kiera squealed to Johan.
“Well not if we don’t get started.” Johan held out his arm and Kiera took it. When they stepped into the sanctuary everyone stood, the music started to play and flower petals rained down from the balcony. The wall behind the alter was actually just a huge window framing an oak tree. The rest of the room was surrounded with stained glass windows and covered with a dome ceiling. At the alter was Elysia, who had been invited to read the wedding scriptures. In front of her was Saeran wearing a dark red suit with gold buttons, tails and a black bowtie. His hair was actually neatly combed. His best man, Hardran, was just wearing a plain suit, probably trying his hardest to keep still.
Kiera strode down the aisle slowly, cherishing every moment and trying to make it last. She got up to the alter with Shanette behind her and Johan stepped beside Har.
“We are gathered here today to celebrate the holy matrimony of these two people…”
Kiera gazed straight into Saeran’s light blue eyes and he into her sparkling red eyes. Both could not stop smiling, “We’re actually getting married!” she giggled.
Saeran took her hands in his, returning that wide smiled, “From here on out, everything will be perfect.”
“I know it will.”
“…Do you, Kiera, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love and to hold, through sickness and in health, through rich and through poor, for as long as you two shall live?”
“…I do,” she whispered, overcome with joy.
“And do you, Saeran, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love and to hold, through sickness and in health, through rich and through poor, for as long as you two shall live?”
Saeran was starting to lose his composure as well, “I do.”
“You may now kiss the bride.” Elysia smiled, closing the book.
Saeran leaned in and their lips met. Kiera had never felt anything like it before, It felt as if the butterflies in her stomach were lifting her up and letting her fly. She wrapped her arms around Saeran’s neck while Saeran embraced Kiera around her back and ran his fingers through her silky smooth hair. Saeran and Kiera pulled away, each of them took a small candle and lit the bigger candle in the middle, symbolizing their unity.
Kiera kissed him again and got that same feeling of flying. Outside the window, was two squirrels chasing each other up the tree and out of sight.
