hey guys sorry for the wait. weekend was full, family from out of town and yesterday i was kinda sick but now that im here lets keep the story rollin!
Chapter 3: Our Story Unfolds
Sunlight leaks through the curtains covering my window. I turn over and pull the covers over my head to avoid it. But fate had different plans, for the alarm clock began its repeated beeping. I stuck my arm out and searched, blindly swatting until I hit the button.
I got out of bed and did my 50 sit-ups and push-ups as was my routine for who knows who long now. I’d had a busy week so far. On Monday, I was gathering last minute supplies for the trip and Tuesday, I had to go to the dentist. Now today, Wednesday, is the official meeting of the participants since not everything was explained about the new checkpoint system.
It’s also the last week of school. The race always started that Saturday. As I leave the house, I meet up with Hope and we head towards school. Since the seniors are all gone, the meeting will take over their lunch period.
“This sucks! This is the last place we should be since we got a week off!” I complain. I held the door open for Hope and she entered.
Then she answered,”Me either, but since we’re early, we can mess with our friends one more time!”
She and I were wearing our Demox uniforms. Mine is a black, one-piece jumpsuit-type thing, though I didn’t wear the light armor that goes with it. Hope’s family is a little old-fashioned so she wears an old style, short dress with shorts underneath. At least that’s what Mages wore back then. Now they wear uniforms similar to a Battle like me.
We roamed the large campus popping in and out of classrooms, eventually going our separate ways. Alternates were not to come to this meeting because theirs was yesterday. That meant Anthony was in class. Honors History if I’m not mistaken. And I’m not! The classroom was on the first floor, just like the cafeteria. That was to be our meeting room.
I entered the classroom to hear Ms. Mianne giving her final lecture for the year. Not everyone had to take her final tomorrow though. That group of “not everyone” included Team Neravien! “Excuse me!” I spoke. I put on my best innocent look for her. “Well, I was hoping to see Anthony for a minute if it’s alright,” I said.
Ms. Mianne was a woman in her early 50’s though she didn’t look much older than maybe 42. She was also really nice but she gave a ton of work! Lucky Hope got the easy Honors History class! The teacher looked at my innocent stare and waved my cousin off. “Only because you’re exempt from my final!” she justified. After a minute of planning our afternoon with Hope, I walked back into the class with Anthony to receive hugs and high 5’s and stuff.
I met Hope at the doors of the cafeteria. We stared at the doors for a moment. I took a deep breath and asked, “You ready?”
Hope simply smiled and replied with another question, “Have I ever not been?”
