Chapter 9: One More Day


Hit the alarm. Should I go back to sleep? Someone’s gonna wake me eventually. Most likely Kimi before she leaves at 8:30. Or Dad to make me chase after him on foot while he rides his bike around the block a few times. I’d rather Kimi come in screaming than chasing Dad. Though it’s good for me.

I end up waking up on my own and it’s about 7 am. After completing my morning exercises, I left my room to face the world. The house was dimly lit, except for the kitchen. Mom’s up. The smell of coffee grew as I shuffled closer to the kitchen. Kimi and Mom were sitting at the table. They seemed sad, though maybe it was just because it was early.

“Hey Mommy!” I greeted childishly and softly kissed her cheek. Her name is Lira. She doesn’t Demox, but she does work for City Hall.

“Morning, baby!” she said rubbing my head. Kimi smiled and nudged me as I sat down. I nudged her back and continued to do this back and forth, giggling as if we were four years old. That’s when Ashley came in.

“You two sure are getting along!” she teased.

I then jumped up saying, “Not anymore. Moments over, now get off me woman!” and hugged Ashley. I got us some juice and we sat and talked for a while. We decided to train all day basically.

“Good morning everyone,” Dad greeted coming in the door.

“Hi, Mr. Kyzen!” Ashley replied hugging him.

I myself got up and me and him gave each other our usual greeting by lightly butting heads and saying a simple “hey” towards one another. He walked past me and kissed his wife and daughter, then asked, “Where’s my father?”

Mom answered, “He’s still in his room. I know he’s awake though.” With that, Mom and Dad walked back tot heir room. Around the same time, I got myself together and Ashley and I left the house.

“We’re going to the hotel where the other teams are, aren’t we?” she asked, knowing we were. They had really good training facilities and stuff if you got the chance to use it, though it was for paying customers of the hotel only.

“Yeah and we’re gonna abuse our Demox Race power to get in free!” I explained. She agreed and traveled happily until we got there.

“All right! We’re here!” Ashley cheered. We walked up to the front desk where a woman no older than maybe 25 was taking a call. We waited patiently and when she finished, Ashley went to work. “Excuse me!” she said sweetly. “My name’s Ashley and this is my best friend Dyron!” she began.

But before she could say another word, the lady turned into a fangirl! “Oh my god, you two are Team Neravien! You look a lot taller in person, Dyron!” she complimented.

I smiled and nodded a thank you as she continued about how skilled and good looking both of us were. Finally, I stopped her. “So I see we already have fans! Well, if you could, would you let us use the training facilities for a few hours?” I asked as respectfully as I could.

“We’d be very appreciative,” Ashley added.

The lady looked around and whispered, “I really shouldn’t, but I let you today! Train hard you two! And by the way, I’m Tabatha if you need help!”

We thanked Tabatha and made our way towards the gym. We entered, and Team Kratias was there! “You two!” I called. Curstan was shanking air and Nathan was conjuring fireballs.

“Hi!!” Curstan squealed hugging us both. “How’d you get in?”

“Chick at the front desk was totally fangirling over us,” I explained. But anyway, we all began to train together and trade techniques and styles. Pretty soon we stopped to eat. “Where’s Lamis?” I asked.

Nathan chuckled and mimicked Tyler’s voice, “They don’t do last minute training! Why waste energy?” he took a bite of the muffin he was eating, shaking his head. “Assholes!”

After some more training, said our good byes for the day. “See you in the morning! We’ll be enemies over night!” Curstan smiled. Ashley and I nodded and left. Me and Ashley spent the rest of the day together doing all our favorite things together and cherished each moment. We wouldn’t get to do this stuff for a long time!

That evening, we sat in our yard, hugging. “See you in the morning Dy. I love you! You know that?” she said.

“Yeah. I love you too. Don’t stay up too late,” I told her letting go of her.

“Ok, you either,” she replied and we went into our houses, for our last night home was a long way away.
