The Beginning
In the beginning, there were 3 gods. Mezzera the God of Darkness, Solus the God of Light, and Korin the God of Neutrality. The three gods agreed to a game. They would create a world, and whoever won the hearts of its denizens would win dominion over the other two and over the new world. This world was to be called Aeir. They created this world with Earth, Water, Fire, and Air, then made it's tenders and civilians. Under the God of Darkness was those that roam the night. For the God of Light were those who were to be the light of the sun. And for Korin, there were the humans, corruptible, easily swayed, and belonging to no one. Later to come were the children of these gods, the gods having had made lesser deities for themselves as children. This was the Age of Mists, it's histories clouded by time.
The Dawning
This age, better to be known the Age of Magic, was the pinnacle of the greatest mage, priest, and necromancer magic. There were three important parts to this age. The War, The Sundering, The Exodus. The War was sparked by two cities, Nanuri and Kanuri. Their founders, two human brothers, which the cities were named after, fought over control of that which they could not have. Godhood. They looked for an ancient artifact, the Chalice, which was forged by a god in the Age of Mists. It was forged by Rorik, deity of the Forge, and maker of dwarves. The Chalice was said to have immense power, and if broken, it's energy would leak out. If one could capture this energy, their magic would rival that of even a god. Both Nanuri and Kanuri could contain it's powers, Nanuri being the master of Necrotic magic, and Kanuri being the Master of White Magic. The following war between these two mages, and their followers, caused the sundering.
The Sundering
Kanuri and Nanuri managed to get a hold of the Chalice, but at the same exact moment. The powers were broken up between the two. They battled for days, both equally matched. Their powers disrupted the world, and the cosmos in which the gods lived. Neither had truly become a god, but both were incredibly powerful. The world began to split apart around them, separating the one large landmass that had been created by the gods, and splitting it into five Continents. The five continents were Llorlan, Kibeth, Vira, Senistral, Westeros. Millions died, perishing under the changing earth, by the natural disasters, and other things.
The Exodus
This was the time that the people had turned their backs on the gods. Feeling that the gods did nothing to protect them, the stopped worshiping them, and eventually, forgot them. The gods were enraged by this. They created more beings, formed out of their malice, before leaving the world, later to return. These were the Dark Legions. The ravaged the world, for they were immune to magic of the gods. The Dark Legion was immaterial in form, looking much like a black armored figure, but their edges being wispy. Then the humans discovered a different magic. Wild Magic. They were able seal the Dark Legions into another plane, using this Wild Magic. This was the only time that the two cities, and two brothers, Nanuri and Kanuri had worked together. The two brothers had sacrificed themselves for the good of their people, to seal the Dark Legions away into the secondary plane, for the life of a god was needed to seal them away. Because they had split the Chalice, they both had to die for it to truly be sealed. The place of sealing is called the Burning Gate, standing 12 ft. tall, and looking much like a stone rectangle. Within the gate burns an unholy black flame, weakening all those who get near it.
Today
This is hundreds of thousands of years later. The years have not been kind to either Nanuri or Kanuri. Both have suffered from death, not only from those that die, but from the declining reproduction rate. It is feared that this will be the last saga that either city writes. But there is another fear, whispered among those who remember. The Burning Gate has begun to stir. Unholy wails are heard from an ethereal plane. The Dark Legions are coming.
