CHAPTER 16 (only a few more chapters!)
We made it back to my room unnoticed. As a matter of fact, no one was really around! It worried me a little. It was just too easy! No one searching high and low, every nook and cranny every minute. I mean, this is royalty!
"Brandon! Calm down! As long as we explain, we'll be fine!" Braya whispered.
"Yeah! We'll take just as much blame as you!" Tera added. Her sisters and Anarya agreed. I relaxed a little knowing I had good friends. I think I'll like it here! Just when I got comfortable...it happened.
The door was thrown open and Larian rushed in shouting, "There he is!! There's the thief! Arrest him, now!!!" Behind him were his dad, the HW, and a squad of guards. The guards rushed in behind Larian and took me to the ground.
They held me there as the Emperor walked up. He looked down at me. He looked incredibly angry, but acted otherwise. Larian, on the other hand, was acting someone half his age.
"Looks like I've won this round! Eh, Earthling?" he taunted. I tried to jerk my way free but the 4 guards on me only tightened their grips. If they weren't holding me Larian would be dead. That would've been worth it! The HW said not a word, but his expression was very similar to that of the Emperor's.
Then the girls jumped up. "Please! Don't do this! He has done nothing wrong! he saved those nomads from Dytarius! We helped him!" Anarya yelled. She kneeled down beside me and place her hand on my cheek.
"Yes! We are as much to blame as him!" Sara said. Her sisters joined in too. Their father gave them an icy stare and they backed down without question. With only a wave of the Emperor's hand, I was hoisted up by the guards and dragged away.
The High Preist was on his way to the scene when he saw me. He said I would regret such a deed as mine. I said nothing for there was nothing I could say at the time to change them. As they guards continued, the women came. All except Rena gave me a look of shame and disgust. She began to cry. It hurt me to see her like that. Her having to see me in this position.
I was taken to a hidden hallway and thrown into a dungeon type room. "You will be dealt with in the next day," the Emperor said finally. That was it. He left then witha shake of his head and a sigh.
I was so tired, I slept all night. I didn't expect that to happen. The next morning, a guard entered and gave me food. Before I could eat, he snatched my right wrist violently. He unclipped something from the belt on his armor. A bracelet. He locked the bracelet tightly around my wrist. I pulled away and asked, "What's this?"
The guard's expression was unreadable due to the helmet that covered his face. "A present from Lady Anarya! As you can see it is white!" he said. It was. It had a bright glow in the low light of the room. "When it turns black, then you will know your time has come!" he explained.
"Exactly what does that mean?" I asked with a gulp.
"The Emperor, HW, and High Priest will have made their decision! What your fate entails, I do not know!" said the guard. As he left, he looked at me once more. "May the Gods take pity on you!" he said with a salute and left.
The lonely time in the cell sapped me of my energy. I looked down at the bracelet as if it were a watch. It must have been hours most likely. The bracelet had changed from its pure, holy, white to a sparkly, shimmering, light gray.
I leaned my head against the wall and sighed. I thought about what they might do with me. Maybe semnd me home. Or leave me to die in space. Kill me right here. It began to stress me out. Damn! Here we go again with the fackin stress!
Could I find no peace of mind? I had been at peace. When Anarya 'fell' into my life. I was happy! I mean, because of her, look what I did! Stuff I never would've thought to dream about doing! I was on top of the world! Now I'm right back under it. There was a knock at the door.
