It was many days since the dragon, Ruu-san was bound to the earth. Knowing that he had lost his wings, he didnt dare think of flying in the skies now. He let his sighs out more often, which drained his life little by little. He recalled back to the time when the zodiac animals were chosen. He remembered the great being that held the challenge, and immediatly he knew that this person was the only person he could run to. He remembered like it was yesterday, where the event was held, and where the person stood. when he had arrived, the person who had held the blessing of the zodiac animals was still there.
He approached slowly, not knowing what to expect. But his mouth opened on his own and words trickled out. "Oh great one," said Ryuu-san in a weak voice, "Why? Why has this happened to me? Why are my wings gone? And why does the sky not want me anymore? That was my only place of retreat from all of the people that did not wish for me to be on the earth..."
The being opened its eyes, and they seemed to shine with wisdom. "Ryuu-san... I know of all your tragedies, but rather, I would not say they are as sad as they seem..." This confused the dragon of course, "Let me tell you a trait which everyone posses, which you do not know of. In the land of the zodiac animals, I bestowed elements upon them, allowing each individual animal to be unique in their own sense. These elements were : Metal, strong and sturdy; Water, caring and adjustable; Wood, everlasting and comforting; Fire, passionate and brave; and lastly Earth, encompassing and considerate." it let the words sink ino Ryuu-san's mind for a moment. "Do you know which element you fall under my sorrowed dragon?"
"I do not. It's hard to believe I am any." He replied.
"You are not so much foolish, than you are silly, my friend." Smiled the being. "You are an Earth Dragon, Ryuu-san." Ryuu-san's eyes widened. "How could this be? You are wondering? Quite simple... You see, youre traits and thoughts that you thought were in the sky, were actually held deeply on the earth. Leaving Hebi-san was not out of stupidity, but out of logic and honesty... which is cherished greatly by the earth... it is true, and solid. You could not be with her forever and could not fulfill her wishes, you did not wish to lie, and honesty was your only option. You did not wish to lie, for you cared so much that lying was not in your mind. Very true to logic, and honest. Honesty is had to accept, but lying is even harder to gain trust."
Ryuu-san stood silent, trying to swallow the words. "B-but... The sky, it does not want me, it had removed my wings... I am not fit to be called a dragon..."
He let out a warm hearted laugh and replied, "My silly dragon... The sky did not leave you. Nor did your ability to fly. You had simply went through metamorphisis. You had learned your lesson, for the better at that as well. You tried to tell yourself that you were wrong, for everyone was against you... But in truth, you were not wrong to do those actions... rather you were right, considerate, and only did what a loving heart would do... tell the truth. The sky noticed this, and knew it was time for you to finaly spend time on earth as well." He gave a warm smile, "You can still fly without wings, for they are in your heart. You, of all dragons, are a special kind... For you can sore above other still, where you can be praised and admired, and yet you can also be on the earth, where you are approachable, and others can understand you."
With these words of encouragement, Ryuu-san tried to take flight. And like the great being had said, he could still fly. Wingless as he was, the wings in his heart had lifted him in a new light. He knew now that as much as people believed he could not be earthlike, they were wrong. He was not not earthlike... rather, he was too earthly for them. It was ironic he thought... how they were the inhabitants of the earth, yet they wanted to hear answers from the sky.... answers that never reachd the floor, and could only be looked at from a far.
With that, Ryuu-san thanked the great being. He was now a new dragon, and understood his purpose, and the hardship he would face from answering too much like the earth. So he flew back into the sky where everyone smiled up in awe at him, and he then traversed the earth, where his words were accepted, for they were the truth, which was better than any lie. He was not wrong, yet he made an honorable choice which was hard to swallow. He could not stay on the earth.... for he was needed in the sky as well. The truth was always hard to accept, but it is harder to accept a person that had lied. He lived his life happer now, knowing that Hebi-san lost what was rare to come by...... a dazzling being that flew in the sky, yet a tangable asset on that was as down to earth as any other being.
