A ruthless grin was plastered across Celeste’s beautiful heart-shaped face. The wind played with her long red hair as it softly pulled her thick locks. Her body’s luscious curves showed through her outfit: a pink halter-top that attached in a choker at her neck, making her cleavage more apparent. A black short skirt & knee-high, high-heeled boots brought the whole outfit together with an assortment of pink buckles. Her lavender eyes sparkled in an odd light. In truth, it all made her look maniacal.
She stared proudly at all the chaos being created by her own hands. She chuckled as the four powerful beings fought for their lives. Here she was, a mere human, over-powering those of which were presumed to be undefeatable by her kind. And, without even breaking a sweat, she was already getting closer to wiping out their existence. It was all part of the process of her becoming the strongest of all worlds. She couldn’t help but swell with self-importance.
Her mind wandered to how, at the beginning of her childhood, she was so enthralled at the prospect of magic. Then it was a the ridiculous fantasies of making love potions; healing; kisses of life; making pretty flowers and butterflies with multi-colored smoke; all that nonsense. Though as she was shunned by her peers because of her fascinations, her heart filled with resentment at her weakness & how she was treated. Her ideals took a sinister turn.
It was a demon that taught her how to hone her skills into something fearful & powerful. He said with his training she could be powerful in any dimension. He promised this & more, & all she had to give in return was her soul. She signed the agreement in blood. From there, she began to learn so much more than she could possible image: How to control all the energy around her; how to manipulate elements; control someone’s mind, soul, and body; how to kill. She did not mind the catch, in fact she awaited it eagerly. Becoming a demoness would only grant her with more vigor. She would be considered something of a prize & valueable, & would be treated as such.
Celeste! Pay attention!! Rang the voice of her newest master. It echo-ed sharply through her brain.
Celeste looked up just in time to have a blast of energy & fire erupted in front of her face. Celeste screamed as the heat from both stung her skin. She covered her face from it & stumbled back. She glowered up at the skies, wondering who dared to attack her. She saw the demoness zooming straight at her, the woman’s leathery wings tucked in for the sharp dive. Celeste’s confidence suddenly melted & was replaced by fear. This was her first hand-to-hand combat. Her victims never had the chance or time to get this close to her.
She let out a sharp scream as she ducked away from a slash at her neck, missing the blow by luck. Celeste peeked out from behind her cowering hands. The demoness stood beside her, shocked over her inexperience in battle. Though it only seemed to enrage Kakairo even further. How dare this brat throw her weight around & cause to much trouble for them?! The rage in Kai’s stomach bubbled up into her throat. Celeste tensed and stared pitifully as Kai drew back her forearm. A sharp pain pricked the mage’s jaw as the demoness’s left fist collided into it. Celeste felt herself spin to the right & land on her back a few feet away. Warm, thick blood gushed into her mouth. Her blood. Panic over took Celeste & she looked up wide-eyed at the sky. Her mind was too confused & scared to process what was going on anymore. So she laid there, too stunned to move.
Her eyesight saw caught something cutting through the darkness: a small wave of miniscule light green projectiles. Celeste screamed again & scrunched into a fetal position. Though her strong desire for protection saved her as she unconsciously produce an energy shield. The arrows bounced harmlessly off the surface. Celeste felt tears of fear well into her clenched eyes. What had she gotten herself into?! What was she doing here?! She felt every inch of her cower & shake. She was going to die! They were going to kill her! She was really going to die!
Get up you pathetic disgraceful weakling! The words of her master echo-ed in her mind. The authority griped hold of her senses & steadied them. Years of hard training & work under his command instinctively brought strength & calmness into her mind. Celeste opened her eyes. She saw the other woman in bone armor hurtling towards her. She was chanting something. Celeste recognized it as a spell that would be used to kill her energy shield. The demoness stood not far away, her wakizashi readied to deal the final blow once it broke.
I can’t! She cried. The panic rose back in her. Too much! Too powerful!
I SAID GET UP!! The volume rattled Celeste’s brain & she yelped. GET UP!!
Celeste obeyed & reluctantly got up to her feet. Rem was only mere yards away, the spell’s energy concentrated into her palm. Celeste’s energy shield began to ripple as the mage made it unstable just as Rem’s palm slammed into it. Rem gasped, knowing what was coming but knowing it was too late to stop. The shield exploded in her face with a blast that shook the ground. Rem felt the force hit her like a tin mallet. The world around her was thrown about her before she collided hard into the earth.
Celeste was thrown back a bit but most of it hit Rem. She heard her master chuckle.
See? They are nothing. Now finish them! Celeste’s mouth curled into a smirk, feeling her pride & composure suddenly come back.
“REM!!” Kai watched as her friend was thrown into the ground, spinning like a top. Rem’s armor disappeared & she laid still. Kakairo growled at the mage. A few more scaled prickled onto her skin. Celeste looked at her as if she were a queen looking down on an opposing servant. She wiped the trail of blood from her chin & glared challengingly at Kai. Kai was surprised by the sudden change in character, but rage was what grabbed most of her attention. She readied her wakizashi to strike the mage down.
Celeste took a sturdy stance, making Kai almost think that she was about to use martial arts. That is, until Celeste threw her palms forward as if trying to push an invisible someone in front of her. The earth formed into a five foot wave. Kakairo staggered & tried to get some sort of footing as the ground broke beneath her.
She opened her wings & gave them a might FWAP! as she took to the air. Kai pushed herself to hover 100 feet above & away from the mage before turning and flying straight at Celeste. Celeste saw her coming at eye-level and stomped her foot into the soil, making her energy concentrate there. She pointed at the spot a few feet in front of her opponent. Just as Kai flew over it, a wooden spire ripped from the ground. Kakairo shot a few feet up to avoid it, only to maneuver to the side to avoid another. Kai spun, twisted, turned, & dodged non-stop as they sprung up one after the other. She kept going forward, determination to slaughter the mage giving her the power & speed she needed.
After Kai had spun to the side again, Celeste shot another spire beneath her just as she steadied her flight. Kai was caught by surprise & tried to narrowly evade it by twisting her hips, but lower front still grazed the tip, making a deep gash. Her face twitched but she ignored it. Celeste had stopped using the spire tactic & had settled back into her stance. She waited, allowing Kai to cover the distance between them as she centered her energy into a new object.

The pain throbbed through Rem’s skull. She could hear it pulsing in sync with the beating of her heart. She groanted & tried to sink back into the blissful darkness. But the noise… DAH!! That wretched noise! It kept her from going back to sleep. What was happening out there anyways?! With all that screaming, yelling, & weapon clashing it sounded like a battle!
THE BATTLE!!
Rem quickly snapped awake & shot up, only to regret it as her vision spun in all directions. Rem groaned & shook her head to rid of the dizziness. When it finally cleared, & she could see straight, her eyesight pulled itself together just in time to see Kai attack Celeste head-on. Celeste was commanding a huge boulder to ram into her at the side. It flew at Kai as if it were propelled by a catapult.
“KAI!! TO YOUR LEFT!!”
The demoness stopped & looked to her left. She had just enough time to cover her head before the chunk of stone slammed into her. It sent her flying into the skeletal, battle-torn trees. She disappeared among the black & burnt branches.
Rem, her aura raging blood red, was already firing ice needles at Celeste. Celeste tried to duck but still got one in the shoulder. She yelped & fell to her knees. Her entire chest seemed to explode from the pain since her body was not used to this kind of treatment. It was the worst thing she ever felt.
Summon your Guardian, Celeste… Her master purred to her. Celeste, tight-lipped, obeyed her master’s command & clasped her hands together. Almost immediately, a huge amount of spirit energy burst from her small frame, creating a 15-foot grey whirlwind. Rem was hurling every element her mind caught hold of: ice needles, rocks, sharp splints of wood, sticky & crushing-amount of mud that acting like quicksand, electricity, wind. Though all seemed to be easily countered by Celeste’s tornado as it was all back-fired towards Rem. Rem, now on her feet, hurried to summon a quick shield. She never got to see it if worked in time, because a shadow suddenly appeared at her side; creating a space sphere. Rem sighed.
“Thanks Kai.” She said to her battered friend. The demoness didn’t answer. She was too busy watching the newest 20-foot portal Celeste had just called up. A wiry metal stick appeared out of the swirling mass. Its spike slammed deep into the ground for footing, It was some sort of contraption with to balled points evenly placed on its mass to give it maneuverability. It was linked to look like snake scales, giving it the flexibility of one. Another metal leg came out towards Rem & Kai’s direction, making them jump into the air to avoid being skewered. It was followed by another, & another, & another; until eight spider-like legs had made themselves visible.
Rem & Kai watched anxiously from the air as the legs shifted forward, bringing its body into view. Their eyes speculated an odd creature. The body was much like a werewolf with a demented human-like body covered in wiry fur. Its long snout, glowing orange slits for eyes, & glistening yellow-stained canines made it look menacing. Its 6 inch black claws winked in the light. Though that wasn’t the oddest aspect. The creature was suspended a few feet above the ground by the metal spider legs that protruded from its arching backbone.
“Rem…” Kai breathed out. “What is that thing?”
“I don’t think we want to know…”
The Creature huffed a snort from its snout as it turned its nose to the air, sniffing out its prey. A foul blood-hungry growl rippled in its throat as it sneered its grostique teeth with anticipation. It could already taste the meat on its lolling tongue; feel the flesh shred between its jaws.
“Kill them.” Celeste said with eerie softness of demented pleasure.
The werewolf allowed the spider-legs to lower it onto its hind-legs. The metal suddenly became less stiff & burst into a flurry of motions, wringing & curling like worms under the sharp end of a knife. The werewolf let out a hollow, ear-splitting howl. Rem spouted a profanity in some ancient language. The two women weaved to opposite directions as a metal leg shot at them with surprising speeds & accuracy. It twisted & wrung in the air, not sure which to pursue, before turning its point at Rem.
Rem maneuvered up to avoid a second metal whip that tried stabbing her from the side. The one behind her had already caught up & now hovered above. It shot down towards the middle of her back. Rem spiraled to the side, feeling the breeze as the thing passed by. The creature snarled at her right. She caught sight of Kai’s dark figure going through the obstacle course of tentacles on the other side of the werewolf. Four of the eight contraptions were focused on the two. Celeste stood at a safe distance, grinning a smug leer.
More tried coming from above, their glinting points hungrily aiming to pierce her flesh. Rem flew to the side just as the spike came down on her. The ground shook as the point punctured the earth. Another came, & another. Rem zig-zagged between them.
One. Two. Three. Rem thought. Where was the fourth?
Rem gasped as the dirt uprooted beneath her. The fourth tentacle sprouted from the dirt like a deadly thorn directed at her head. Kai tackled her out of the way, making Rem grunt as the wind got knocked out of her. They hit the ground & tumbled across the grassy surface, the sweet smell of the earth & plants feeling their nostrils, before coming to a stop. Rem lay on her back as she tried to blink the stars out of her eyes. It was only then, in that spare moment, did she realize how tired she was getting. Perspiration stained her face & dampened her collar. She was beginning to breathe more heavily as her body was starting to feel weary. She looked over at Kai, who was the mimic of her own image & state of mind. How long could they continue this?
“s**t!!”
The profanity awoke Rem from her trance & she turned on her side just as another tentacle stabbed at her again. Kai jumped to her feet to avoid the point directed at her. The tentacles slammed into the ground simultaneously where they used to be. Kai twisted her body out of the way of another one coming straight at her. It zoomed past her, only inches away. Rem had rolled away from another spike. She jumped to her feet just in time to sense another attack behind her. The fighter jumped into the air, allowing the tentacle to hiss past her feet.
Kai watched from the corner of her eye as she blasted a tentacle away with a shot of energy. She saw Rem fly into the air for safety, only to have her movements followed by a swift blur from behind; as if it were part of a planned attack.
“WATCH IT!!”
Too late. The metallic appendage struck like a bat at her head, making it whisk to the side. Kai felt her legs turn to lead & her insides freeze as she heard the sickening crunch that followed after the impact. A spray of crimson droplets stained the night sky. Her friend came spiraling towards the ground at dangerous speeds. Kai tried to move forward, but if it was as if she were scared to find out what she already knew.
Catch her!! She screamed at her immobile limbs. Though, before the command could travel through her system, an intense pain ripped through her abdomen. A tiny yelp of surprise & pain gurgled out of Kai’s throat. Something warm & thick began pouring rapidly from the top of her torso. Realization softened her shocked eyes & she cursed herself for being to distracted to be aware of her surroundings. She closed her eyes & sucked in a deep shuddering breath as she tried to fight the weakness that was quickly engulfing her. Her wakizashi fell from her hand, hitting the ground thickly. Kai opened her eyes only to see the world shift in front of her; blurring; disappearing & reappearing. Rem lay a few yards from her, unusually quiet & still. A pool of blood soaked into the ground & stained the grass beneath her. She could see Celeste’s cruel grin boring down on her as she felt her legs give out beneath her, her eyesight being overtaken by darkness.
All her sense became as cold & numb as her body; all but sound & feeling. The roar of the battle still rang in her ears, but it sounded like she was listening to it through a seashell; or was hearing some distant echo of a ghostly past.
She felt the tentacle that impaled her slip out of her torso, & she began flying. No… falling; she was falling into this endless black pit. Kai tried to force her eyes to open so that she could find something to stop herself with or catch. Though her eyelids were too heavy to relent to her demands. Why was she still falling?!!
Two strong arms caught her and encased her into their safety. She felt herself sink into those arms, weak & limp. She felt their warmth contrast with her icy limbs. Kai let herself relax into the care of her new guardian; all the concerns, thoughts, & pain disappearing as she did so.. It wasn’t like she had a choice. She was in no condition to do anymore.
“Get her out of there! Move out!”
The voice was distant & incoherent. And even if it was, Kai’s mind was too discombobulated to comprehend it. But she recognized the tone. It awakened her senses drawing her back to reality. Her eyes opened a crack, her crimson eyes staring dully up. A patch of silver hair contrasted against the curtain of shadowy film that Death had placed on her eyes. Two glaring eyes on the outline of strong facial features were staring down, past her, at the ground. Graceful wings pounded the air in the background, their movements making them bob up & down slightly.
“Kio….” The word passed soundlessly from her lips. The darkness stalled no longer & quickly stole her away again. All senses died. The last sound she heard before completely slipping into unconsciousness was the beating of her struggling heart.
burning_eyes burning_eyes burning_eyes burning_eyes burning_eyes
“Get her out of there! Move out!” Kio yelled down at the groun.
“What do you think I’m doing?!” Aergan snapped at him in the midst of metallic tentacles. His force field was keeping him & Rem safe; whom he held in his arms. He got to her ok, but now it was just getting out in one piece.
They had arrived there just in time, but if only they had arrived moments sooner... Takara had the others riding on her back some distance away, among of which were Luichen and Sotaru. Zaira & Jack were tending to them as best they could while Taka blasted huge portions of the Genesis army into ashes with her fire. Taronis & Aergan had immediately gone to aid Rem. Kio caught Kai as she was thrown off the spike that impaled her.
Kio felt Kai’s weight increase in his arms & he turned to look down at her. She looked bad… real bad. If it wasn’t for her short, ragged breathing he would have thought she was already dead. Her chest heaved unevenly as whatever strength she had left was focused on supplying her body with some sort of life force. It was a futile fight. He could feel the life & blood drain out of her through the 3-inch gaping hole in her diaphragm.
Rem was in a no better condition, possibly worse. Her entire body was soaked with her own blood already. A huge patch of her hair stuck thickly to her crown where the blood was seen pouring out from. Her pale-grey complexion spoke of Death. Her frame laid as limp as a rag doll’s in Aergan’s arms, her size seemingly smaller compared to the giant’s, giving her a more ailing appearance.
Kai’s blood was seeping onto Kioshi’s forearm, making her slip. He shifted her up gently and grasped her shoulders more firmly to keep her up. Her frame was leaning in the crook of her arm. Her head rested, slumped, against his chest. Wrath beyond any comprehension began eating his insides away, consuming him. An unsteady pulse of red aura vibrated off his form as his eyes began glowing. Every inch of him shook. He wanted to rip every throat open. He wanted every drop of blood from any opposing fighter to be slowly & painfully sapped out.
He would do it, too, once he got the others to safety before anymore were severely injured… or worse. Zaira, Taka, Aergan, Taronis, & Jack were battle-worn & exhausted after all they had to put up with today. Even Kio felt the tugs of lethargy on his senses. God knows what condition Luichen & Sotaru were in.
They had to find a safe place to recuperate. & they had to quickly find a place to heal Rem & Kai… because they could die at any second….

[Kai Note: I just wanted to bring up something Akume brought up in her brilliant manners of observation: I definatly ain't the next J.R.R Tolkien. xd Yep, I've accepted that. But keep in mind, this is like my rough draft's rough draft. Once I'm done putting it up here, I'm probably going to go over it about 2 or3 more times to add more details. So you all are just getting the rough draft of the deal. 3nodding ]
