You'd reached what you assumed to be the top floor. Kurama sighed and put Arashi down, "Well, here we are."
Arashi eyed the large double doors he'd stopped at, "And just wheres here?"
Kuwabara chimed in, "Oh, you'll find out soon enough!"
Yusuke nodded smugly in agreement, and Ashi glared at them, her fists raised, "How about I just beat it out of you instead?!"
She was about to lunge at them when Kurama grabbed her around the waist and pulled her to him, restraining her, "Come on now, don't start something you'll regret...!"
She scowled at him and pulled away, brushing herself off, "I guess you've got a point...not like I have time to waste on these loosers..."
Hiei rolled his eyes and put you down beside him after the rest of them had entered through the doors. At first you tried to pull away, but he seized you by the wrist and pulled you into his side, glaring down at you, "You'll do as you're told or accept the consequences..."
You blushed a bit after being forcefully pulled into his side, and gulped, nodding nervously, "Consequences...right..."
He raised an eyebrow at your response at first, then smirked at seeing you blush, "Embarrassed?"
You rubbed insanely at your cheeks, only succeeding in making them redder. He watched you, seemingly amused by your reaction. You finally stopped, glaring at him, "No no no...I DON'T embarrass!"
He chuckled, "Uncomfortable?"
"Nosy?!"
He smirked and pulled you up to meet with the rest of the gang again. Yusuke had just been regaining composure after his and Kuwabara's previous encounter with Arashi, "Hey, what took ya?"
"Hn." Hiei threw you over with your sister and you rubbed your hand up and down the arm he'd been holding you by, "Jeez...I may have two arms, but I'd like to be able to use them both in the future, if thats all right with you. Of course, you don't mind, now, do you?!"
He leaned against the wall beside Kurama, "I'll sleep on it..."
You glared at him but shook your head and decided that fighting with him was like talking to a freggin wall. Arashi spoke to you huffily, "Took you two long enough..." She then turns her glare to Yusuke, who sends subtle neck gestures in the direction of the desk in the center of the office. She turned to face the back of a big chair, glaring at it ruthlessly, "Either you tell us whats going on, or we're apt to become violent...!"
You cocked your head, "Uh...we are?"
She glared at you, "YES! We are!"
You giggled nervously, "Oh, yes...heh...of course...I knew that!"
She rolled her eyes, "Right..." She sighed, reaching you telepathically, ~Just smile and nod like you at least know what youre talking about, alright?~
You nodded, rubbing the back of your head, "Heh...right!"
The chair suddenly spun around, and Koenma showed himself in toddler form, leaning over on his palms on the desk, "As hard as it may be to believe-"
Before he could say anything, Ashi cut him off rudely, laughing her butt off, "Alright, can someone tell me why that baby's talking?!?!"
Koenma climbed onto his desk, shaking a fist at Arashi and throwing a tantrum, "I am not a baby!!! And I've been able to talk for longer than you've spent on that human world of yours, thank you very much!"
Ashi rolled her eyes, "Yeah, am I supposed to be impressed? Oh yeah...real cool..."
You'd been gaping at the toddler behind the desk and finally couldn't hold in your commentary anymore. You jumped up excitedly, "Yeah, it's cool! Dude, it's freggin awesome!!!"
Ashi eyed you oddly, "Only you, Suki..."
You sighed, "Aww...don't listen to her! I think you're totally cooleo! No ifs ands or buts!"
Ashi glared at you, but Koenma's attitude seemed to have changed at your compliment, "Well, now...it's nice to be appreciated!" He seemed to be shouting at a door in the back of the office, pointing back at you, "SEE?! I KNEW I LIKED THIS ONE!"
You blushed slightly, and Ashi just rolled her eyes, "No...seriously...who are you, how do you know us, what do you want...and why in the hell can you talk - because I'm just not seeing it..."
Settling back down in his chair all professional like, he cleared his throat, "Well, to put it simply-"
Ashi cut him off again, unhappy with the context of his sentence, "Are you saying that I need it put simply?! I have a lot more brains than people give me credit for, and I refuse to be labeled stupid or incompetent! Is that clear?!"
Koenma glared at her, "Listen here, you're in no position to be giving me orders, got that?! I'm the all-powerful ruler of the spirit world!"
Ashi flailed her arms angrily, "So?! What does that have to do with anything?! You might have to put it simply for Suki-"
"HEY!"
She glared at you and continued her argument, "BUT...you can just lay it out straight for ME, got THAT?!?! Or Im libel to just up and kick your little-"
"Eh!" You grab hold of Ashi and try to shut her up, "C'mon, Ashi, he can't explain anything if he's dead for crying out loud!"
"Hn..." She pulls away from you and brushes herself off, crossing her arms, "Whatever...just get on with it, then!"
You sighed in relief, and Koenma finally began his explanation, "Right then, as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted. I am the all-mighty ruler of spirit world, Koenma, and it's my responsibility to see to it that there are no demons roaming about in the human world that might jeopardize the humans' way of life. And I'd like to thank you two for taking care of one of them for me, but thats not quite what I wanted to talk about here. Now, Im sure you two have realized by now that you're...different at the least than most of the inhabitants of the human world, right?"
Ashi just shook her head in disgust, "Why do you keep referring to humans as if we were aliens or something?!"
Koenma sighed, "I am not human...and neither are you or Mitsuki."
You gaped, "Gasp! I knew it!" You punched the air excitedly, "Fear the great and almighty Suki and her spidey powers! HAHA!"
Ashi glared at you, "ONE TIME, SUKI! ONE TIME!" She sighed in defeat, turning back to Koenma, "You can't be serious, can you? I mean, if we aren't human, then what are we? Because me and Suki-" She looked over to you to emphasize her point only to find you engulfed in your spidey poses, totally out of the conversation, "SUKI!"
"Eh...! W-What...?!" You turned to find Yusuke and Kuwabara snickering over there in their little corner, while Kurama tried to hide his laughter and Hiei looked away awkwardly, "Heh...yeah...sorry, wasnt paying attention..."
Ashi huffed, "Forget it!"
You giggled nervously, "Um...mkay!"
Koenma jumped into the conversation again, regaining the center of attention, "You, Mitsuki, are a light demon - the last of your kind - and a powerful heat demon as well, controlling things such as fire and the occasional electric charge. And Arashi, you are a dark demon - the last of your kind as well - with the power over wind and air."
Your jaw dropped, "Dude, what? Dude...what?! Demons?! How'd...how did this happen?! Not that it isn't cool...but...hey! Heat huh?! You dont say...that would explain teacher's skirt catching on fire a few years back..."
Ashi finally spoke up after trying to take in Koenma's information, "Yeah...how are we demons again?!"
Koenma sighed, "It's a long story, but-"
"Save us the details and just get on with it already!"
You glared at Ashi sternly and she rolled her eyes, turning away from you angrily, "PLEASE get on with the rest of the damn story..."
You smirked smugly as Koenma began, "Though I haven't been informed of your true pasts, i can tell you your real parents are dead. They were...unfortunate victims of the recent war. Thankfully, your spirits were reincarnated in the womb of your human mother. All had 'supposedly' gone according to plan - well, not entirely, but smoothly at most. But you, Mitsuki...you posed as quite the problem for your mother..."
Startled by his remark, you flushed, looking down at your feet somewhat ashamed, "I...I know..." The topic always seemed to hit you right where it hurts. You've always managed to keep it locked away inside, but sometimes it found it's way into the back of your mind. You couldn't help it. Something about the guilt - the things you were told at such a young age. You tried to push the past behind, but you always knew...it was all your fault. Nothing Arashi or anyone told you could change that. It was always your fault...
Ashi noticed how upset the topic seemed to be for you, and turned her attention back to Koenma, glaring like no other, "Hey, she did absolutely nothing wrong, alright? She had nothing to do with it - it was an accident! You can't-"
You shook your head and tried to chase the thoughts away, forcing a weak smile, "Naw, Ashi, forget it! I'm fine, really...everything's jake - I swear, mkay? But...I'd rather just drop it...if that's ok..."
Yusuke walked over and put a hand on your shoulder, "Yeah, sure thing, Suki. Don't worry about it..."
You looked up from the floor to give him a weak smile, then returned back to your previous position and he gave you a quick hug, then returned to his. Yusuke was one of your closest friends, but you thought you were going to cry, and couldn't bring yourself to show your face, even to him. You just felt like braking down, but you knew it wasnt the time or place.
Your P.O.V.
After a moment you managed to get a hold of yourself, looking back up and rubbing a fist across your face to hide the way you felt. You smiled and returned forcefully to your normal optimistic attitude, deciding that changing the subject would be the best route to take for now, "So...our parents were the demons then, huh?" You giggled, "Well, I guess that would make sense...!"
Koenma seemed slightly flustered, not sure how to bounce back from his slip up earlier, not meaning to upset you, "Y-Yes...and quite...powerful at that!"
You blinked, cocking your head, "Then...why didn't we know this sooner?"
Koenma leaned back in his chair, relieved to see you were fine, "Well...although your true demon forms have not been discovered yet, there have always been small signs of your power. Recently, however, it's begun to increase greatly."
Arashi chimed in smugly, "So...you're saying we're these really powerful demons with rare abilities? As in we could probably blast our way out of this building? Just like that?! Or...blow something up?!"
"Technically...yes...but you don't know how to control your powers yet, and that's why I sent for you. I'm asking you to join the Team Urameshi: Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei." He pointed to Kurama and Hiei, "They will each train one of you and hopefully help you in finding a way to unleash your demon forms safely, as well as your dormant powers. They're both high-class demons, as you two are." He looked back and forth between you and Arashi and Kurama and Hiei, seemingly deep in thought. Finally he spoke again, "Mitsuki...I suppose it's only fitting Hiei train you. He's a fire demon as well and deals in heat. I'm sure he'll be of much more help to a demon of your status. Arashi, this means Kurama will be training you." He zoned for a moment again, then shook his head and tossed his thoughts aside, turning back to you and Arashi, "So, have we reached an understanding? Will you join the team?"
Arashi crossed her arms coolly, "Yeah, I guess I'll join...but I have the right to remain independent. I'll help out when I see fit..."
Koenma was biting his tongue, trying to restrain from shouting at the top of his lungs in your face. He decided otherwise, calming back down barely and reclining back down in his chair reluctantly, "I guess that will just have to do. I have no other choice, we need you here. It's for your own safety, not ours. And if I didn't agree to your conditions, my dad will have my head!" He shuddered at the thought of another hundred spankings and turned to you, "Well, Mitsuki? Will you be joining? I'm sure you're a lot quicker to compromise than your sister, I hope..."
You saw Arashi glare at Koenma from the corner of your eye and giggled. Arashi was already totally hated by your future boss. This was great. You shook your head and turned back to Koenma, "Yeah...I guess I could give it a shot...! But uh..."
"What?"
You sighed, "I can't guarantee my permanent stay..."
This seemed to catch Hiei's attention at first, but he quickly attempted to ignore it. Koenma sighed, "Although I can't force you to join the team itself, I can't allow you to live in the human world any longer...it isn't safe."
You protested, "But I-"
He shook his head, "I'm sorry...but it isn't an option."
You sighed, "Yeah...alright...I guess I'll join, then..."
Koenma nodded, "Very well! Welcome to Team Urameshi, girls! The boys will show you out..." Koenma raised his hand to the left wall and a portal appeared, just like the one Hiei had brought you through earlier.
Kuwabara jumped through the portal, and Yusuke turned to you just before following, "Come on, youll love it! Its a hell of a lot better than that crappy orphanage of yours!
He passed through, followed by Hiei. Kurama stepped forward, "Come on, this way, you two."
Arashi pushed passed him, "I know what I'm doing with these things now, thanks...I think I can do this one myself." He smiled as he watched her pass through the portal, then turned to you, "Are you coming?"
You nodded and were about to follow when Koenma stopped you, "I'd like a quick word with you, Mitsuki, if you don't mind."
He blinked, but smiled and bowed politely, walking through the portal behind Ashi just before it vanished. You gulped and turned to Koenma, "Yes, sir?"
He pulled something from a drawer behind his desk and hopped down from his chair, walking over to you. He held his hand up to you, and you cocked your head, kneeling down to his level. You noticed some sort of small contraption in his extended hand. You took it and turned it over several times in you hand, "What's this?"
He smiled, "It's your very own teleportation crystal!"
"A...teleportation crystal...?"
"With this you'll be able to create your very own portal whenever you please! But it's important to contact me beforehand to inform me of your leave. Use it if you ever feel a little homesick."
"Well, how should I contact you?"
He reached up and pressed a button hidden in the side of the compact, and a large screen lowered down from the ceiling behind you. Seconds later an image of you appeared on the screen and you could see that it seemed to be some sort of communicator. You gaped, watching the compact display your every move and word on the T.V., "Wow! I...don't know what to say!"
"Think of it as a 'team warming' gift!"
You hugged him, "Thank you so much!" You rose to your feet again and he returned to his chair. You pressed the remaining button, and a white portal appeared in front of you. You were about to pass through when you heard Koenma add one more update, "Oh! Before I forget...about Mr. Niwa..."
"Mr. Niwa? How do you know him?"
"Pay him a visit and I'm sure he'll explain everything now that you've been told your past."
You opened your mouth to protest, but decided against it and nodded, bowing politely, "Will do, sir! And thanks again...!"
He nodded, "Tomorrow you'll be starting your training I'm sure."
You smiled, "Can't wait!"
He sent you off and you crossed through the portal...
Suki: Yes...well...I have nothing to say - Hiei?)
(Hiei: *sweat drop* Baka onna...)
(Suki: Aww, go take your rubber nose and honk it, sunshine! You obviously have nothing to say either! When do you ever?!)
(Hiei: *glare* Hn...)
Suki: *smugly* Yeah, uh-huh...my point exactly...
Suki: Oh! Hehe...right! *rubs back of head anime style* Why didn't I think of that?!
Hiei: *smirks and grabs the top of my head, pushing me down out of the way* You truly are impossible... *sigh* Next time on-
Suki: *glomps him and shoves him out of the way* NO!!! I WANNA SAY IT!
SOMEONE JUST TELL ME, GOD DAMN IT!
Suki and Hiei: *anime fall*
Suki: Mkay, mkay, mkay... Next time on Angel in a Hoodie: ...what IS happening next, anyway?
Hiei: *sighs in annoyance* You're first night at the mansion... *smirk*
Suki: *blink* What's that smirk for?!
Hiei: I can't wait to train you...
Suki: Oh...that's right. You're training me, aren't you? *sigh* I'm dead...
(Hiei: *chuckle* Death is the least of your worries...
Suki: *awkward silence* Well...that's encouraging...way to build one's self esteem...
Hiei: *rolls eyes*
Suki: Hm...yes well...yes...tune in next time... *awkward silence...suddenly breaks out in a run screaming* KURAMA!!! HIEI'S GONNA KILL ME!!!
Hiei: *taken off guard by my sudden outburst, just there staring at me awkwardly...shakes his head, smirking* Onna...you really are something else...
