Chivalry:: The Dying Practice
Chivalry - wikipedia def...
Chivalry is a term related to the medieval institution of knighthood. It is usually associated with ideals of knightly virtues, honor and courtly love. The word is derived from the French word "chevalerie", itself derived from "chevalier", which means knight, derived from "cheval", horse (indicating one who rides a horse).
Today, the terms chivalry and chivalrous are often used to describe courteous behavior, especially that of men towards women.
My definition of a Chivalrous person - A person who does whats right even when faced with mockery. Open a door for a lady or gentleman, pull the chair out and then slide it in as a lady sits, are some of the things I still hold dear, granted when I remember, and when I don't remember, I usually kick myself. But that is only the tip of the ice burg. A person who will stand up for his or her friends, or even a person he / she doesn't know, and for what he / she believes to be right and true is also by my definition, a chivalrous person.
In modern life, these people are few and far between, and it saddens me. The old codes of conduct are gone to Capitalism, greed and corruption for the most part. I try in my small part to change this, even if only one person at a time. This is how I am. This is who I am.
