It was a bright beautiful day with birds singing and bugs flying, at least that what my dream told me. I walked with my umbrella clutched to my chest to keep the wind from taking it. As I walked to the bus stop I could tell that this day had many things in store for me. This morning I woke up to the bright sun and when I closed my eyes to get the sleepiness out of them I heard the thunder roll over the house. I hated taking the bus and I told my parents’ everyday as they rushed out of the house to get to work. As I walk to the bus a branch clawed my arm but I was too much in a rush to take notice. I was the last kid to board the bus, and as usually all the seats were taken except of the last seat in the back of the bus.
As the bus arrived that day it seemed to look darker and bigger than usual. It stopped in front of me and as the doors opened I saw the familiar face of the bus driver. A mellow, unchanging face that had cold, hateful eyes, I climbed on and realized something wasn’t right. I walked the aisle slower than usual and noticed that all eyes were upon me. I walked to the last seat. I sat down and looked up to see every kid had turned around and was watching just me. The bus gave a sharp jerk and started towards the school. I stated at all those faces that faced me.
Their colorless cold dull eyes stared at me with anticipation as if I were some circus animal and was about to perform a trick. A stinging caught my attention to my arm and realized that it was bleeding, the droplets of blood had formed a small puddle on my shoe. I looked up from my feet and looked in to the eyes that stared at me from all angles. Then their eyes turned as red as blood, the lust for blood, MY blood. I closed my eyes and pinched myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming and when I opened up my eyes I was staring face to face with the cute little girl I had a huge crush on. She was licking her lips hungrily and seemed to be ready to pounce on her prey, me, just, as a cat would do. I tried to sink in to the chair as much as possible and was overjoyed to finally reach school.
All day I called my parents, hoping that they would come pick me up that afternoon but I could never get a hold of them, I guess they were in meetings. As the end of the day neared my heart sank lower in to my shoes. The last bell finally rang and I walked slowly to the bus. I climbed on with caution and heard a familiar sound, the sound of talkative kids. Every kid seemed to be normal again. As I walked nervously to my seat, I stopped and looked at the girl I had a crush on. She was to busy talking to her best friend to even notice me, so with that I walked a little more proudly to my spot. I thought about it and realized that it could all have been just a weird and long dream, and to that, I laughed to myself.
I climbed off the bus with my head held high and laughing again. As I walked the steps of my house a deep uneasy feeling came over my body, I felt a little light-headed and scared again, something wasn’t right. I unlocked the door to find an empty house, or at least that’s what I thought. I climbed the many steps that lead me to my room to put my things away. I put on some music to make the quietness fade and busied myself with homework, all of a sudden the music stopped and I heard my name being called.
I turned around slowly and saw my parents standing in my doorway with the same red eyes I saw on the bus earlier. My parents entered my room and walked silently to my desk where I was working. They touched my shoulder and I could feel a cold slimy sensation run down my back. I shivered and pushed my parents’ hands away, I got up and ran for the door but my parents were already blocking it. They licked their lips and crept closer and closer towards me. I didn’t know what to do, so I grabbed my pillow lying on my bed and started to violently hit them. They were too busy to take notice that I had fled the house as fast as my legs could take me to the neighborhood park.
When I got there I sat on a bench trying to catch my breath and thought about what it was that had happened there. Was someone playing a nasty trick on me, was I going insane, or has this whole day been a dream? I pondered these questions a little bit longer and thought what ever it was I’d have to face it sooner or later. I decided to take care of it sooner, and I walked back to the house that I was dreading.
I pushed the door open with my foot and heard the sounds of my parents in a deep conversation. This puzzled me, I stared at my parents as they talked and sipped cold coffee, and I couldn’t understand what was going on. My parents finally looked up and asked me where I had been. I looked deep in to their eyes and saw that loving parent look I have always seen, and eventually told them I was out playing. I crawled up the steps again and stopped at the top.
A mirror, my mirror was what had stopped me, I stared at my reflection and thought that I was going crazy, for there, starring right back at me was me, but with those same red eyes and an evil grin forming.
