So the gifts are all opened, the mess cleaned up, and the dinner leftovers safely tucked away in the fridge. I got about 6 hours of sleep (frequently interrupted by my sister screaming in the next room, for reasons that I just don't care about) and woke around midnight. Spent two hours trying to shovel a path from the ramp to the street, so I could get the papers to deliver. The problem is, there's a crust of ice atop 3 or 4 inches of snow, with a layer of frozen slush beneath the snow. The plastic, curved shovel was utterly useless, so I had to use the heavy, steel coal shovel. It was pure hell. Started on the drive, but the papers came before I even got the car freed. There was just no way I could clear enough of the drive to get the car out, so I had to walk all the papers for the third night in a row. Took me three and a half hours.
Exhausted and in a world of pain, I then went out and continued shoveling. Finally managed to free the car of the layers of snow and ice, got it running, pulled it into the clear spot on the drive. Then I tackled the end near the street, where the city plows had dumped a ton of hard-packed snow and ice. I'm terrible at judging distances and such, so I can't tell you how large the area is. 12x12? 14x14? I dug and scraped for two hours, then took a half hour break, and finished off in another hour.
So I can drive tonight (unless it snows more, in which case, I give up). Gigantic, bloated-with-adverts Sunday papers, so I better be able to drive! It's already noon, and I hope to sleep soon, but dunno if I'll be on tonight. I'll certainly try though!
