Chapter 2
And So the Day Begins
I take a deep breath and take the first few steps that I'll be taking for two more years. Great. Just as I let out my third sigh for the day I hear a familiar voice, Alex!! Whooo-Hoooo~ I knooow you hear me girly! A southern-laced voice calls out and my face lights up with recognition. Hey Michelle! Glad to see a familiar face finally! I said with a slightly crooked smile, Michelle was my best friend, she had been ever since preschool. She knew all of my secrets and I knew all of hers, but we did have a bit of things in common.
For example, I'm a vampire (obviously) and she's Wiccan.
Okay, that doesn't seem similar what-so-ever, but I meant it as it me and her are
both diffrent.
Diffrent.
Isn't every one diffrent? No one can be the same, not even twins are the same.
God. Since when did I get so deep?
I'm shaken from my own little phycoligical moment by Michelle nudging me and whispering, Ooohhh look! Isn't he ca-ute!? She squeals still with her natural southern-bell voice. I look over and notice a raven haired guy tossing the reminants of his cigarette to the side as he heads toward the front doors. I lift a brow, Him? He's a grade above us though. I said a bit shocked at her choice of guy..
I was never into the whole "bad-boy" type, to over done and most were fake anyhow. I watch him enter the building and can't help notice that something seems...off...about him, but before I can think into it futher I'm once again interupted by her giggling. But he's hot! I heard his name is Skylar, isn't that a cute name? She continued to ramble on about him until the first bell rang and I took my chance, Oh! Gotta run Mich, I'll meet you at lunch! I called over my shoulder as I headed to first period, Biology, as my schedual told me.
I slide in right before the bell rings and quickly take my seat to avoid any crap from the teacher, never had this one before so I'm not sure how he'll be.
Scratch that.
How she'll be.
I look up and see Ms. Shrewsberry scrawled on the board and I look to see where she is, but I see no teacher in sight. A few moments pass and the class begins to grow a bit loud due to the lack of authority in the room and right before it turns to chaos the teacher runs in quickly, muttering something under her breath as she does so.
Hello class! Sorry to be late on the first day, but I got a bit lost you see. She was a very thin, older woman who wore thin glasses that balanced on the end of her nose, seemingly having no purpose. She scrambled around trying to get everything settled before taking a deep breath and facing us...it was almost as if she was nervous.
Were we that intimidating?
As the lesson starts I sigh and take the time to examine the room.
My eyes wander around noticing familiar and new faces, I then spot this Skylar dude that Michelle was cooeing about and..is he looking at me? I quickly advert my eyes, but a puzzled look is apparent on my face as the teacher calls on me.
Ms... She examines her roll chart for my last name ..Bryce? Ms. Bryce, do you have a question? You seem a bit confused. She asked with a slight blink and I feel everyone's eyes on me. My cheeks flush adding extra color to my usually pale face and I mutter, No. I'm fine. And the lesson continues. I don't dare chance another look in that direction, but I do continue to look around the room. Now my eyes land on a guy with sandy blonde hair, I can't help but stare a bit as he looks at the board with an uninterested look, but I quickly look away as he turns his head in my direction. I didn't need a recap of earlier.
Finally the bell rings and I grab my book bag and purse, heading out the door. That is until I feel a hand grab my arm lightly.
I look over a bit shocked and see the sandy haired boy from earlier and I feel my blush treatening to return as I ask, What? Do you, uh, need something? I could have hit myself. What kind of stupid question was that.
Apparently a funny one.
He cracks a smile and gives a light chuckle, I notice he has bright green eyes and it's hard to look away from them. Uh, no. You dropped your pencil. He said lifting a brow at me and held out my pencil for me to take. O-Oh, uh, thanks. I stutter slightly and quickly grab my pencil and make a U-turn for my locker.
As I make it there I shove my books into it and begin to sort through what I'll need for next period. Math. I almost groan as I think of the subject I loath the most, but my self-annoyance is interupted by a familiar giggle and I look over just in time to see Michelle flirting with Skylar. I can't help, but roll my eyes at the sight. Just like Michelle.
It's not that she wasn't pretty, she was curvy, naturally sun kissed tan, and had long curly blonde hair with deep brown eyes. But she fell for any guy that would give her the time of day. Just as I was about to turn away the guy glances up.
Directly at me.
It's as if he knew I had been watching.
I freeze and I could have sworn I saw a smirk slide across his lips, but he quickly remet Michelle's gaze with out her even noticing his wandering eyes. I blink a few times before I turn back to my locker and grab my stuff for math. I close my locker and walk to class almost robotically, trying to proccess everything that had just happened.
Did he know?
Of course he didn't know. I've never even spoken to him before..I shake my head and sigh as I reach my second class. I sit in my seat with plenty of time left to spare and notice a familair face out of the corner of my eye. I can't help, but look over at the sandy haired boy, but he's already looking at me. I flush and give a small smile, that he returns with a chuckle and turns back to the front of the class.
I also look forward once again and sigh to myself. What am I thinking? It's not like he'd even think twice about someone like me. I grumble to myself and begin to copy down the problems on the board.
This year is going to be interesting to say the least.
