Besides Shiori, none of the other characters developed any new facets. Takkan, especially, remained level throughout. Maybe Kiki did, a bit?? And, as in the last one, there was always Some Dude to intervene (literally until the last minute). I was surprised by how many characters were permanently left in the first half, but see my earlier point about sequel hooks.
I was also surprised - more pleasantly this time - by the "Should the demons be freed?" question being posed. More so that that question was answered, even if clumsily. I'm more lukewarm about the final clash of the book, but still, good on Lim for giving her protagonist such a big issue to chew on.
I don't plan to read Her Radiant Curse or any other books that might come out of the SCC series.

I reached the midpoint of Landscapes for Writers before picking up Promise. It's a bit dry, but interesting. I don't know when I'll get back to it. I'm currently reading The Watchmaker of Filigree Stree by Natasha Pulley, and I am GRIPPED. I have no idea when or why I added it to my to-read list, nor did I have any particular expectations going into it (I think I only reread the beginning of the synopsis before putting a hold on it). The story voice is so... tactile. Almost photographic at times. It's making me damn anxious.
'Til next time. yum_tea
