Chae Miyuki Nicole sat on a park bench and sighed. Looking back, it was really pathetic. With an irked expression, she idly payed with one of her feathery earrings, her eyes on the hem of her skirt while she played with that, too. I can't believe I ever trusted him to understand. . .
It had all happened so long ago . . . two years, at least, yet the pain was still as new as if it had happened yesterday. She's finally decided to let someone into her secret life. Nothing bad just unpopular. Cosplay was a bigger trend in Japan, but Miyuki was sure it would eventually gain popularity. She actually thought he'd accept it - they'd been dating for a while, and he'd even put up with her "no weekends" policy on dates. Those were reserved for cosplay or anime conventions, and those could pop up at anytime. Smiling, Miyuki winked at her reflection in the mirror in her room, shifting her weight into a catlike pose as she adjusted the ears of her costume. "Nya~♥" she purred, giggling. Wouldn't he be surprised? Her phone vibrated, and she picked it up to see a text from Ahn Jihun, her boyfriend. She smiled at it, heading out the door and typing her own message in response.from: Ahn Jihun Where u @? I'm w8ing 4 u.
Once she got outside, she darted down the street, headed to the hotel where the convention was being held. Within minutes, she arrived, slipping behind a bush to peek through the shrubbery. She had to make sure he was actually waiting where she'd asked him to. And like he'd said he was. There he was, sighing and looking around in concern. Jihun had waited for her, even though Miyuki was horribly late because of a wardrobe malfunction she's needed to fix. A strap had broken, and there was no way the dress would fit right if it wasn't fixed. Giggling softly, she leaped over the planter, skillfully holding her skirt down. Running up behind him, her heels clicking on the concrete, she draped her arms over his shoulders imitating a purr. "Jihun-ah~" she murmured, lightly kissing him on the cheek. "Thanks for being so patient~"
"Miyu?" Jihun inquired, turning around. HIs tone was less than reassuring, his expression even less so. He looked her over, but she couldn't tell what she saw there. "What the hell are you wearing?"
"Wh-what do you mean?" Miyuki inquired. "I'm a cat girl. A neko. It's cosplay," she explained, pouting a little and shifting uncomfortably, absently fidgeting with her hands. "You don't like it?"
"How can I?" Jihun inquired, backing a step away. "You look ridiculous! I can't be seen around a freak dressed like that."
"Excuse me!?" Miyuki inquired, huffing and putting her hands on her hips. "You're the one who wanted to know what I do on the weekend, so now you know." She shook her head. "If you don't like it, leave. But I'll never speak to you again!"
"Fine, but it's your loss," Jihun sighed, raising his hands as if he could do nothing more and backing away.
That did it. Now Miyuki was mad. "Ahn Jihun! I saekki ya!" she snapped, glaring at him. "How could you do this to me!? I thought you, of all people, would appreciate my unique hobbies! I hate you!"
Those three words, a simple sentence that was so final, echoed around in her head until a tap on her shoulder called her from her thoughts. "Miyuki-yah?" her friend's voice inquired, "are you thinking about that guy again?"
"Sooyeon-ah," she greeted in a quiet, almost bewildered tone, reluctantly nodding after a moment's hesitation. "Ne, unfortunately I am. . . Gaesaekki. . ."
"Yuki-yah," Sooyeon sighed. "Yah! stop it, babo! Insulting him won't help.Come with me." Without waiting for a reply, Sooyeon set to pulling her, headed in a direction Miyuki had never been before.
"Aish~ what are you doing?!" she exclaimed, pulling away to try to stop them. "You know I don't like going new places! I like my routines~! . . . I know I won't see him. . ."
"Miyu, will you stop worrying about seeing Jihun? You said you'd moved on," Sooyeon asked, stopping to look back at her. Her expression was anything but believing what Miyuki Nicole had said just days before. She could always read Miyuki. That's why they were best friends. Eventually, that look broke her.
". . . I lied, okay? I'm sorry."
"See? Now come on. I'm helping you," she stated. With that said, she began pulling Nicole again. Miyuki groaned and sighed tiredly. She'd been too hurt over the years, her tears all cried out. Or at least that's what she wanted to believe. She was tired of feeling miserable, tired of seeing her best friend try so hard to help with little to no success.
She'd see what Sooyeon had planned.
Finally, the two young women reached a cafe, thought Miyuki had never seen one of the like before.
