Lola was jumping rooftops, just for the heck of it. It was a nice enough night to do so, why waste it? The bar on the corner of the street had a familiar presense at it. Lola could guess who it was before she even realized that was what she was doing. Captain Black. But it wasn't just his presense and his smell, but she could smell something more....something sweeter and warm...his blood. He must have gotten in another fight, Lola thought. The final jump from the rooftop to the bar entrance was the most graceful one she had done all night. While airbourn, she did a slow back flip and landed on her feet just in time. Lola's heart jumped as she looked at her 7 year companion.
"Captain, what happened to you?" she asked.
When he finally acknowledged her, he said "Let's just say...I HATE clowns." He put a hand on her shoulder and continued, "How are you, Lola?"
The smell...it was so good...but it singed her lungs. "I'm alright, but you might not want to do that while you're bleeding..." The vampire replied, shaking his hand off and putting a finger under her nose.
"Ah...yeah," he remembered, "Nothing's new here...except that the world is falling apart around us." Captain leaned up against the building and propped a leg up behind him.
Lola sighed. "Well, that's not exactly new....," she reminded him.
"Alright, well what about you?" he asked.
"Nope, nothing new...except I've heard there are more and more well behaved Vampires, such as myself..." Lola said.
"Oh...care for me to buy you something to eat when I'm done patching these up?" The captain asked, reffering to his back. He held out his hand for Lola to grab and asked, "Coming?"
Lola grabbed the Captian's hand and smiled, silently accepting his offer. Her heart jumped as she did; she'd had deeper feelings for him than she thought he realized. Instead of just getting up, Lola kept hold of his hand and jumped onto the rooftop of the bar with him. "Care to take a detour?" she joked. The journey was short, and soon Lola was dragging Captain to his "place".
"You know something...Humans were never meant to fly," he joked, inside his heart leaping. "I do hope, Lola, that you know when to stop."
Lola smiled at Captain's statement. "Anything's possible, hmm? Isn't that what people say? Humans flying is possible, just with a little help." A few seconds after that, she spotted the old, abandoned warehouse where Captain often stayed to map out plans and weapons. "Oh, I know when to stop..." Lola countered, jumping through the already broken window, landing softly on her feet. Unfortunately for Captain, he wasn't so graceful, being human and all. But also, Lola had a quick reaction. Before he hit the ground, she caught him and set him down before he knew what had happened.
"The Warehouse? Instead of my Apartment? Talk about roomie..." He jested as he coughed twice when he entered. "This place is way too musty. Thats why I prefer not to be here." The Captain pointed at a beat up couch in the center. "Make yourself at home, I'm going to tend to my back."
Lola smiled. "I like it musky." And then it faded quickly. "Actually, someone was following us...I'd rather them tear up the Warehouse than the Apartment." As Lola pondered this for a moment, she had sensed that the person following them was in fact a human. But...how were they following so quickly? "I'm going to the freezer for some packs of blood...." Since Lola hated being what she was, all because people thought she killed innocent civilians, she didn't kill anything alive. She ordered packs of blood from a big hospital supplier, and put them in the freezer in the warehouse. "You know, if I slipped one day, I'd have to suck my own blood dry..." Just the mere thought of hurting him in the least bit scared her, although he was tough, Lola was about 50x stronger than him, maybe even more. Lola walked to the freezer.
"I would not hesitate to let you feed off of me before you had to do that." Captain cracked his knuckles as he walked up a set of small, swirling stairs going up to a medical box. He then took off his trench coat, and his dress shirt and turned to look in a mirror. The mirror would show many scars, plus five new cuts, one of which had a bit of wood sticking out of it. He sighed. "I hate my job." He then began to open the medical kit to get rubbing alcohol and poured it down his back. He let out a loud scream as his wounds began to burn with full intensity. "You would think I would get used to this by now...." Honestly, he did not. He's fought demons upon demon, vampire upon vampire. Most of which he did not get more than a scrape or two. Every now and then he would get beat up badly, and tonight was one of the nights he did. Getting thrown through the table at such power would have probably broken a mere humans back, but not him. He then reached around and began attempting to pull the bit of wood from the deep cut. "I really...Damnit....Really.....Son of a...Hate....Ahhhhh....MY JOB." He screamed as the piece of wood became unlodged from his back and he sat there for a bit catching his breath. He could tell by the mirror he was bleeding pretty badly, but he'll live. He always does. He begins to ponder at the thought of Lola coming up here and letting her hunger get the best for her. He would simply have to slay her. It wouldn't be the issue of if he could do it, but the question was WOULD he do it? The answer was, yes, and he knew it, but he trusted her, and would give it his all to not let it come to that point. He really did care about her. He then poured some more alcohol on his back. "DAMNIT!" He yelled loudly.
5 packs of blood down. When was the last time she'd fed? Now that she had some blood in her body, it felt like ages ago. Drinking the last of the blood in the 6th bag, she heard Captain screaming and cursing. Sighing, she left the freezer, closed and locked it, and ran up the stairs. There was no danger being near him now, even if he was bleeding insanely. The sight upstairs was not pretty. It hurt Lola to see him this way, even thought she should have gotten used to it. He was always fighting someone, something. "Anything I can do?" Lola asked, wincing when he pulled chips of wood out of his back.
"Actually, care to bring me those bandages over next to the medical box?" He pointed at it. "All I need to do is bandage myself up, sit for a few moments, then we can leave." He looked at her and smiled.
"Sure. Here ya go." Lola said, giving the bandages to him. She looked at the hunter longingly. If he only knew how I really felt about him....maybe something would happen. Lola sat, waiting for Captain to finish, never taking her eyes off of him. "Sorry you have to look at my scar ridden torso. I know its not pretty." He reached around and struggled to put on the bandages. "But hey each one really does tell a story."
"Oh, it's fine. I should be used to it by now, I don't know why I'm not." Lola said, although she did know. "But that's true. So, what're we going to do now?" the vampire asked, sighing.
"Well...," He stood up and stretched while he put back on his dress shirt and trench coat, "I treat you to some...dinner...well too late for dinner, so I'll say midnight snack at the Lunartic Cafe?" He yawned as he picked up both of his revolvers and reloaded them with ammo and went over to a wall with his blades hanging. He picked up one with a crimson color blade and a black hilt with bats on it. He placed it on the sheath on his back. "Ready to go?"
"Human food....actually does sound good right now. Shall we walk, drive, or should we run the rooftops again?" Lola asked, giggling. Then, remembering that she had some blood on her clothes from earlier, ran to her little makeshift closet, replaced her black jeans and long sleeved shirt with a black jumpsuit and combat boots, and was back in six seconds, waiting for Captain.
"Dressed to please eh?" The captain joked.
"Dressed to please? I have nothing else to wear, and having blood on me in a Lycan hangout is not good.." Although she was kind of wearing this for him.
"I think I've had enough of rooftop walking....I'd rather walk on GROUND." He held out his hand for her to grab and walk. "Not too far of a walk, and plus its my favorite cafe in the whole city, it's peaceful, and it has the best carrot cake in this life." Captain Black informed her.
Lola's heart leaped as she took his hand and started walking outside.
"Well maybe next time...bring something else over there, so you have something to slip into thats not a jumpsuit," He chuckled as he looked up and saw the crescent moon, and a small snow fall began.
"Yeah, I'll try to remember that." Lola replied sarcastically. She followed Captain's gaze up to the beautiful crescent moon.
"Winter sure is nice," The hunter gave the first opinion Lola had ever heard.
"Yes, it is. It's so pretty. And it's the only season I can go out and if I accidentally touch someone, they won't exactly know what I am..." Lola sighed and looked down.
"I know what you are Lola, and it does not bother me one bit." He smiled and squeezed her hand a little tighter as they reach the front of the cafe. "Here we are, The Lunartic Cafe...The Lycan hut," he chuckled.
"Well, you deal with "people" like me for a living." Lola squeezed back when Captain did, and her heart skipped a beat. The smell of Lycans disgusted her a bit, but she could live. Most Lycans were good and peaceful, so good vampires and Lycans had no problem with each other.
He chuckled as his index finger caressed her hand ever so slightly. Lola thought about what Captain's reaction would be if she told him her feelings. "Captain....I have something to tell you...." She sighed and never took her eyes off the squares of sidewalk.
He hesitated at the door to the cafe. He turned to her and still held her hand. "What is it Lola?"
"This may sound old fashioned, I don't know, but.....I love you.'" Lola winced. She might have said that too openly. So out there.
He wasn't suprised at all with the statement. He knew what feelings she had for him. "About time you said something."
Lola was a bit surprised. He'd known that entire time? "Well, of course I didn't say anything at first. I mean, a vampire and a vampire hunter in love? How was I supposed to know that was even possible?"
He laughed and still held onto her hand and carressed it with his index finger. "Let's just say...you can call me old fashioned too."
The vampire let out the breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding since she'd told him, and looked up. She took the last thing he said as an "I love you, too." Lola smiled up at Captain, who was smiling down at her.
"Let's head inside, I'm getting cold." He told her.
"Oh yeah...sorry!" Walking inside, Lola could smell the Lycans. Not as bad as she thought it'd be. She was calm here, surprisingly, even though every Lycan there turned their gaze on her. Lola just smiled. Hopefully they'd understand she wasn't a killer.
Captain walked over to the counter and knocked three times on it. "Hey Tommy, its CB....I need service, what kind of place is this?" He joked. Tommy, a Lycan, was a close friend of his, and he knew he was going to give him his table as he waited.
"Ey CB, usual table? Oh wait, I see you have a guest tonight...not going to introduce me to your friend, boy?"
"Oh of course. Tommy this is Lola, and Lola this is the laziest Lycan you'll ever meet, Tommy Chamberlin."
"Pleasure is all mine," He said, holding out his hand.
"Hello, Tommy." Lola greeted him with a smile (attempting to hide her fangs) and a handshake. "Nice to meet you, "lazy-Lycan"," she added, giggling.
"Yes, yes...well CB you can get your usual table," he said, pointing to it. As the two began walking to the table, Tommy grabbed CB's arm and whispered. "Dating a Vampire?" He whispered low. "I didn't think this day would come."
"Not dating." He whispered back. "Hanging out thats all." He blew the hair from his eyes. "Go get me some Coffee and Carrot cake ready. I don't know what she wants." He walked to catch up to Lola.
Lola had started walking to the table Tommy had pointed at when she heard them whispering behind her. Lola grinned as she slid into a chair next to the window and stared out blankly. She sighed. It was time for the devilish vampires to come out. She longed to gain her revenge, but she could barely think about her mortal life without hurting, let alone killing the vampires that had ended it.
The Captain went and sat at the table, and blinked twice when he looked at Lola. "A few hours 'till dawn. I really do need a vaction." He said while he looked up at the ceiling. The ceiling was painted a royal blue with white stars everywhere, and a pale blue crescent moon was done right up onto the ceiling. It looked misty, though, with the Cafe being home to some hardcore smokers. He loved this place.
Lola jumped at the sound of Captain's voice. She had been staring and thinking so intensely that she hadn't even remembered where she was. "I know what you mean. I'm so sick of them all." Lola said a bit angrily.
Tommy came with a pot of coffee and flipped over one of the cups at the table as he poured. He then layed down a piece of Carrot cake in front of CB. He nodded and looked at the girl. "What will you be having?"
To Tommy, Lola replied, "I'll just have the same thing." She wasn't really in the mood for picking and choosing, and she hadn't had carrot cake since.....Lola's heart ached. Since her 13th birthday. Her father had taken her to a big party at one of her presents...a small mansion. Her father had called it "Lola's fun house". Strictly for friends and fun things. Lola sighed. Tommy nodded and walked away.
Captain Black sat back in the chair and looked at Lola. "You're in for the greatest carrot cake in the universe."
"Am I?" Lola asked, smiling sadly.
