updated and more in-depth history
History Four thousand years ago, Chryos, an angel of the fourth choir, the Elohim, decided that it was time for him to descend to the mortal realm to spread the wisdom and counsel of the gods. before he left, he was gifted with a sword from Gabriel, and the title of "The Wandering Ice Angel." After a last night with his choir, he left the fields of heaven and descended to the largest city and cultural center of the age.
Located on an island, Atlantis was a bustling city full of ancient knowledge, stories of times long passed, and secrets of magic that had not been seen for many ages. It was in this city that he settled and called home for many years. After a time, he established himself as a healer and source of wisdom on the island. he gathered many friends there, and one day he fell in love with the daughter of one of the ancient families of sorcerors on the island. Together, Chryos and Merukea had a family for a while. Like the generations before her, Merukea was a great wielder of magic and it was through her that he gained his knowledge and love of the arcane arts. however, his times of joy were not to last.
He was returning home, after a long trip to the mainland to retrieve some of the magical components that his wife needed, when he noticed that he had been flying for a far longer time than was normal, and had seen no trace of the island in sight. he was hovering over the ocean, trying to figure out where he was, when he began to notice pieces of furniture and signs of civilization floating in the water. Atlantis was gone, pulled beneath the waves by some unknown force. There was nothing that he could do for the people of his beloved island except bring their floating bodies to the mainland for a proper burial. He would spend many weeks bringing boats to the now submerged island only to return with them later that night, laden with the empty shells of his friends and loved ones. the only bodies he could not find to bring back, were his two children, his silver haired son, ashitaka, and his crimson haired daughter, sona, each having distinctive birth marks on their hands, and though they were twins, looked nothing alike, nor could he find his wife, her sister, nor a newcomer to the island that had appeared the year before. He searched the waters under which Atlantis now lay for many days but could find nothing of them. After months of mourning the loss of his family, he set out to find a new place to call home. he couldn't stay with the coastal community where the bodies of the Atlantians were buried, the people there reminded him too much of his lost family and friends.
Chryos traveled for many centuries, settling in a town or city for a few months or years, helping the sick with his healing magics and sometimes providing council for the leaders of the communities. one of his longer periods of rest was in Venice, where he performed his usual duties, and while he was there, he befriended an elderly man who would come to his shop every day and talk with him whenever things were slow. one day, the man stopped visiting, and in his mind, Chryos knew that he had passed on. a few days later, a younger man dressed in the clothes of a messenger and carrying a large satchel, walked into the shop and handed Chryos a scroll, then turned on his heal, and left rather hurriedly. Unfurling the scroll, Chryos read over it and was amazed to find that the elderly man who had frequented his shop, was actually a very wealthy man who lived in a large mansion outside of the city walls. what was even more amazing was that Luca, which was his name, had left his entire mansion and fortune to Chryos for "indulging an old man in his last days, with the comfort of someone to talk to."
Chryos stayed in Venice, living in his new home, practicing his magics, and experimenting in the weaving of spells. one night he was creating a particularly powerful spell when suddenly a small, bright-eyed fox jumped up on his workbench and caught Chryos off-guard. the spell that was being worked, unexpectedly began to unravel in Chryos' hands. when chryos woke up a few hours later, he could hear far better than he could before, and he seemed to have a greatly improved sense of balance. upon glancing in a mirror, he realized that he had the ears and tail of a fox. feeling that they were an improvement, Chryos decided to keep them rather than correct the error. from that day forward, though, he kept his doors and windows closed while he worked spells late at night. Later he discovered that the fox had been a pet to the mayor of the town and had escaped that night and somehow found it's way to Chryos' home. after a few more years, Chryos set out once more to continue his search for his destiny.
After traveling around for a great many years, he decided to check back with the heavens and become a messenger for the gods. during his time since returning to the service of the gods, he has fought many battles against the forces of the underworld, and has acted as healer and defender for thousands of his fallen comrades. his battlefield experiences have allowed him to strengthen his skills, with both sword and magic. his stay in the angelic battalions lasted for nearly 900 years and he finally retired 3900 years after first coming to earth.
Upon his return to the mortal realm, Chryos discovered that a great many things had changed during his absence. he discovered that he had a great great great great grandson by Kiandra, one of two angelic daughters from chryos' second marriage, to a beautiful angel named Kara.
Conquester, as he was called, was a strong young man, who had not yet discovered his heritage when he and chryos first met, but grew into his wings shortly there after. Conquester had a quick temper, and a blade to match, and soon after he and chryos became friends, he began to grow into his angelic magics, and he quickly discovered his affinity for the element of fire, which seemed to fit him rather well.
After a few years, Chryos began to frequent Con's bar, and it was on one of these visits that he discovered something that he would not have dreamed possible in all of eternity. one day, as he walked in, he saw a crimson haired young woman and a silver haired young man sitting at the bar, casually conversing with Con who was serving them their drinks. Con invited him over and poured chryos his usual glass of angelic wine, which was exactly what the silver haired young man was having as well. not thinking much of the choice of drinks, chryos struck up a conversation with the two guests. A few minutes later, Chryos was streaking across the Atlantic ocean, heading towards the submerged island of Atlantis, his mind racing at the possibilities of how his long lost son and daughter had shown up nearly three and a half millenia after the destruction of their home. for three days, he sat on the beach that had once been covered in the bodies of his friends and neighbors, wracking his brain as to how it was that they had survived.
