Chapter 2
The dark eyes pierced mine but suddenly it just seemed to vanish as if it was never there. I suddenly couldn’t even remember how it looked or if I even saw it all. I sat the box down on my bed and looked around confused and scared. I suddenly got too scared and ran out my room as fast as a bullet. I shot down the stairs and out the door. “Mom! Mom! There was some one in my room!” I sounded frantic and my voice was very horse. “Here honey, take this up for me.” “Mom, I just saw some one in my room.” “Don’t give me a hard time right now please.” I took a bag from her and tried to forget about the dark deep eyes.
After we put all of our stuff up Mom was making dinner and Max and me were watching T.V. I had tried to forget the horrible eyes and tried to act normal, it wasn’t working. When Max scared me I almost came out my skin, I walked into the kitchen and thought my mom was a mummy, On T.V. some one screamed and I thought some one was dying. I couldn’t understand what I saw. I couldn’t understand why I saw it. Had Max or Mom seen it? The didn’t act alarmed like I did. They weren’t scared. Why had only I seen it? “Dinner, can you smell it?” I looked at the kitchen, and I could smell it. Max jumped up and ran into the kitchen. I finally got up and went into the kitchen, too.
“Dinner was good mom.” “Thank you, Max. Are you both settled into your rooms?” “I am.” Max licked off some spaghetti sauce off his face and ran out the door. “Me too.” I walked out the door and up the stairs. I entered my room with caution like every other time. I really didn’t want to see the evil eyes again. I walked in. No eyes. No figure of a girl. Nothing. Relieved, I walked to my closet and put my pj’s on. I looked out the window and noticed the lights in the house next door were on. I looked at the window where the light was on. I saw a loaf of bread on the counter top. Someone picked the bread up. I turned around and almost had a heart attack when I saw some one sitting on my bed. I stood like a statue for a moment and then noticed it was Max leaned over a magazine. I let out a sigh of relief and then giggled. He looked up at me probably because I laughed. “What?” “Nothing, you just scared me that’s all.” “Are you okay? This is like the forth time today I’ve scared you without even trying.” His eyes were much lighter and softer looking than the girl’s eyes. I smiled at him then turned to take off my jewelry. I tried to unsnap the necklace I was wearing put I couldn’t see it so I walked over to Max to ask him to take it off. He looked at me then I laughed and turned around so he could undo it from the back. He got it undone and I walked over to my dresser to place it in my jewelry box. Suddenly I noticed that in my mirror that there was something different, something black that wasn’t there before. I looked up at the mirror and gasped as I turned around to see if it was truly there. It wasn’t or at least it wasn’t any more. Max noticed my sudden movement and my yelp. “What is it?” He turned to see what I was looking at behind him, and since there was nothing he turned back at me and looked at me hard. “It disappeared. Just…Just like that.” I was breathing hard and didn’t look at Max. “The figure from earlier it was right there.” “What, are you trying to scare me now?” He flipped the page in the magazine he was reading. I continued to look behind max as if the girl would reappear. She didn’t so I turned to see if she was only in my mirror. She was gone from there, too. I couldn’t understand why she was there and disappeared. Was I just hallucinating? I was lost in my thoughts until I heard mom scream from down stairs. Max and me both jumped up at the same time and ran down the stairs. I’m sure he was confused but I knew why she was screaming. She saw the girls figure and her dark eyes. We came through the kitchen door to find mom sitting in one of the kitchen table chairs. In front of her was a small box that was opened. “Ma…Max?” She was quivering and shaking all over. “You…you’re good with frog’s r…right?” “Oh yeah sure. You got one there?” “Yep. Come get it. Come get it now!” “Okay, Okay. Jeez it’s not going anywhere, and it’s in a box. You screamed that loud because of this?” He picked the frog up and carried it to the door. I looked at mom who was slouched in her chair afraid to death. She is really scared of frogs. She considers it touchier just to see one. “All taken care of. Okay?” “Yeah I’m okay.” She looked up at him and smiled. I slipped under my covers and started reading my book. It was real quiet. A lot different from where we came from in New York. I looked around and saw how different it was from the room I had awoke in that morning. I started to miss my old room and couldn’t help but to cry when I remembered my friends. I jumped when I saw mom standing in the doorway. I wiped my face and looked at her. “Hi mom. What you doing?” I tried not to look like id been crying. “Just coming to say goodnight. You okay?” “Yeah I’m fine. Let me just finish my chapter.” “Okay, Then lights out. Okay?” “Okay.” She walked back through the hall, and that’s when I really regretted letting her leave. I was in the room I had seen a figure of a girl in. I was nuts sleeping there. I looked out the hall and saw she was already half way down the stairs. Forget it, I guess I’ll just have to die. I finished my chapter and looked around my room. I didn’t want to turn out the light but I knew I had to. So I got up and walked over to the light switch. I hesitated for a moment, and then like I wanted to take some one by surprise I reached for the switch and flicked it off. I ran to my bed and threw the covers over my head. I knew it was dark under my covers but I didn’t know how dark it was above them. I looked up and saw darkness. Suddenly I saw one of my blankets on the floor move.
