We went for something different. We didn't want to use the whole red, pink, and white; valentines colors. We decided to make an emperor and his empress.

“You’re a damn fool of a king and you know it. I would have been fine. I’m nothing in comparison to what you will lose to those bastards.” A tense hush settled over the dimly lit room as the woman rose from her seat, her robes a cascade of purple-red hues and gold embroidery.

The silence was electric as she gazed down at him with irritation on her masked face, and the mask only seemed to amplify her aggravation. She always insisted on wearing that ridiculous thing on her face, and although it was a strange and abnormal habit he did not mind it, not when she was in a fair mood or when she was angry at him like she was now.

He sometimes could not understand why he had chosen her as a consort in the first place or why he had kept her as that for so long. She was always at his throat with a dagger about one thing or another. Her assertive and dominant nature made her a difficult person to live with, much less rule with.

But there was something in her that made looking at that mask day in and day out something to look forward to.

“And you should know your place, woman. Like it or not a king is still what I am," he replied to her in a curt tone, not even bothering to turn back once to meet her glare.

Not satisfied with the rebuke, she swatted his head lightly with her fan, making his crown tilt off to one side. She whispered, “Don’t let those men take our land away. Don’t let them take away our heritage.” With her free hand she turned his face towards her own and brushed the unruly hair from his eyes. She looked at him tenderly for a moment, pausing to admire his strong figure clad in magnificent browns and golds. He was as bold and reliable as the ancient trees and insurmountable mountains of their land. In a barely audible voice she said, “Don’t let them take away our home.”

And with that the proud queen was gone from the room and from his sight. She never heard the words he spoke amidst the heavy weight of sad silence.

“A home is nothing more than beams and rocks without love- your love.”

And a bit of explanation is necessary too, I suppose. If you can't tell, we're supposed to be Sarah and Jareth from the movie Labyrinth 3nodding
