Scientific Name: Hydrurga Leptonyx
Family: Phocidae
Size: Females (3.0-3.5m) weigh (370-400 Kg) Males (2.8 m) weigh (320 Kg)
Food: Adults (Squid, King & Emperor Penguins, ocean fish, and Crabeater Seals (less frequent). Young (Krill)
Habitat: They dwell in cold waters surrounding Antartica. They are generally solitary. Only gathering for the breeding season.
Life Span: Females (26 years); Males live a little less
Description: They are large and muscular, with dark gray backs and light gray bellies. Their throats are whitish with black spots. Front teeth are sharp.
Breeding: They give birth during the summer (Nov.-Jan.)
