Sosi -
Please forgive me if my tone seems tense. sweatdrop It is certainly not aimed at you. But after hearing Selona cry over the situation with the Disney Baby thread, as a friend, and as an artist, I feel I must point out why I think Moonblossom is completely out of line in this.
I won't even go into how inappropriate I found her outright deletion of the thread with no prior warning....Em's unfortunate encounter with Sere Mudou was far worse. However, I would like to write you both now as to the bizarre claim that Selona copied, by eye or by tracing, any of the DisneyBaby companions.
Flounder. A Disney fish sidekick made up of a single round for the head, back-tilted oval eyes, and tailparts approximately half the length of his head, not including the flexible, expressive fin.
I drew these models from a brief study....three minutes....of how the character was constructed. No copying is needed. Why? Because as a necessity, animation characters are simplified and streamlined so a staff of animators can achieve a consistent look. Poses will undoubtedly recall official in-animation poses. The bodies can only be posed a finite number of ways. Especially Flounder, who is little more than a yellow, blue-striped jowly ball.
My style still shows in the sketches....and so does Selona's, in the companion pic. She gave Flounder a pronounced chin he does not officially have. His fins are far broader than animation gave him. The soft angles of his stripes are jagged and stylized. It is a very hazy "proof" to present a similar pose of a character and call it tracework, by eye or direct....especially considering, in Moonblossom's own observation, Selona's OTHER art is "original".
If Moonblossom would like to use it in the case of my art....since these are the pictures I will redraw for the Companion Flounder....I would like to direct her to my DeviantART, and my model sheets that were once on-file at Warner Feature Animation before they closed down. I also have the documentation to back it up.
I see Shadows Of Africa is still up, despite Winterfalon's awesome talent at nodding to The Lion King's style. I am certain there are sitting and standing poses in the film that bear striking resemblance to her art. How is the difference justified?
I hope consideration will be given to these points. Outright, humiliating deletion of a thread on ONE opinion, and sudden reports after half a year of the shop existing, seems more than a bit extreme to me.
heart Thank you so much for listening, Sosi. xp You can come out of the asbestos room now.
