Several hours later...
"Hmmmmm..." Diego was staring at the black hole in the pipe where they fed coal to. "Do ya think...?"
"Don't even try." Muttered to grey-haired youth. "They're watching." And he shot a glance up at the metal walkway where uniformed people were walking about holding strange guns. "Do you want to die?"
"No, I'm looking for a way out!" He whispered to the boy. "Quit being such a pessimist, Kardo. Just because you can't find a way doesn't meanI can't!"
"Well, let's hope they don't catch you." A girl came from behind, she had grey hair as well. Some in the air in the Towers turned people's hair grey. "So, any way out yet?"
Diego shook his head. "But I have a hunch on a way out. Trust me." He smiled at the two and they went back to shoveling coal into the many pipes that went to who knows where.
That night...
Diego sighed. "What a day of work! Phew!" He wiped his brow with his brown shirt sleeve. He was walking down one of the many Tower corridors. The walls and everything was made of either concrete or metal, even the concrete was reinfored with metal. "Where am I anyways? I can't believe I'm lost..." Diego had been walking for about an hour now, not a good sign. Then the sounds of footsteps came to him.
"-Yeah, that is strange. Better keep an eye on those three." Two of the gaurds had come around the corner, but Diego had disappeared. The gaurds had walked on and Diego was clutching to a cord coming down from the ceiling.
"Lucky they missed me." Then the lights went out and Diego went to slowly. "Ooook...This is bad..." But he walked on and came to a part of the Tower that everyone knew.
"Now how did I get here...? This is the dungeon..." Diego scratched his chin and murmmered some things to himself. Then he heard some voices. "Eh? Better see who it is." So Diego went down the metal corridor of the dungeon. The voices grew louder and Diego found him outside of the room. The door was of metal, but had a small glass window you could peer into. A girl was shackled to the wall and the two gaurds from before torturing the girl.
"Talk! Tell us where the others are!" The gaurd was holding what looked like a normal metal stick, but electricity collected at the end of the stick. "Hey! I'm talking to you!" The gaurd stuck the stick into the girls stomach and the shock went all over her body, but she didn't scream. "Tch, she won't talk. We'll be back tomarrow." And then the gaurds came towards the door.
"Oh-no!" Whispered Diego and he darted down the closest hall. The gaurds exited and, to his relief, went the other way. "Phew." And just before the door closed, Diego sneaked in. The door slammed right after him.
"What?" The girl was in rags and she had dark hair just like his. "Why are they doing this?" He walked up to the girl and looked at the shackles. "These are pretty old...that should mean..." He searched the room and found a cabinet set into the wall that had the keys and a lightning stick. "My lucky day!" He took the keys and unlocked the shackles. The girl fell down and Diego grabbed. "Whoa! Passed out, didn't she?"
Several minutes later...
"Kardo...Wake up Kardo..." Diego was leaning over Kardo in his bed. Kardo opened his eyes a bit and quickly closed them.
"Go away Diego..." But then he opened his eyes again and saw the girl. "What?" And then he sat up. Mia was there, too. "Whoa! What's she doing here?!" But he kept his voice down.
"We're escaping!" Diego smiled. "And I've got this prisoner with us." Kardo looked at the girl and scowled. "Fine..."
