Today I told myself that I would get things done. One of the nice things about being a slacker is that you can ignore that annoying little voice and do whatever you like with a clear conscience. For the most part... Maybe I'm just not a good slacker or maybe it is true slackitude to have the guilty conscience and still be able to blow things off.
I did take Pepper to be groomed. One thing, DONE! I did go to the grocery store, but that's where the slacking started. I got milk, dog food, crackers and a cheese ball, and chips and dip (aka, the bare essentials).
Here's where it's bad though. I meant to get presents today. I really did! And technically I did, but they were all for me... Oops! I told myself before I left the spaceship, "Angela," I said, "don't you even think about going to the 1/2 Price CD store! It's December and this is the season for giving, not getting musix for yourself." Oh and I had such good intentions too! I didn't go to the grocery store next to the 1/2 Price CD store. I made a list of CDs that I'd like so that I could put them on my amazon.com list. But there was a CD Warehouse next to the Sack-N-Save. Who could have known?! I swear I didn't know it and there I was after grocery shopping and still having 30 minutes before I had to pick Pepper up from the groomers. And there was that list! I mean, every time I go to the CD store, I go completely blank, but this time I had a list!
I came out with the Kill Bill soundtrack, Bill Withers Live at Carnegie Hall, and Dogma (the DVD, not soundtrack). *sigh* Well, if I'm going to turn this into something productive I can at least do some reviews for you.
Kill Bill Vol. 1 soundtrack: This CD has a lot of songs that sound very much like Tarantino's usual movie mixes, except they are mostly instrumental. Very 70's theme song sounding (actually some of them are themes). I'm not a big fan of instrumentals personally, but these were just quirky enough to catch my attention. This isn't going to be a regular on my playlist, but a good CD for coming up with drawing ideas. I got an idea for a drawing of The New Marauders just listening to it in one go through. Strangely enough it was a kind of violent image for such a cheery song, but Tarantino has a way of putting music in his movies that can do that. I'm not going to say that if you liked the Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs soundtracks that you should buy this one too, but if you're interested, give it a listen if your CD store has a listening station.
Bill Withers Live at Carnegie Hall: Excellent. I haven't heard it all the way through yet, but it is very good. It has classics like 'Use Me', 'Ain't No Sunshine'(my personal favorite), and 'Lean On Me'. I really like it because the audience is so into what he's singing and you can tell it after every song. Very good if you enjoy old skool R&B.
Dogma: This is one of those sick sense of humor movies. If you don't like that kind, I don't recommend it. It also pokes fun at organized religion. I personally thought it was froggin' hilarious, therefore I bought it. And Alan Rickman is perfect for the voice of God, not that that's why I bought it ^_~. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon made very pretty fallen angels, not that that's why I bought it either. Chris Rock played Christ's unknown 13th apostle, Salma Hayak was a pole dancing muse with writer's block (not that that's why I bought it), and Jay and Silent Bob were prophets. Ebert and Cross give it two thumbs up, but what do critics know? So don't go out and buy it just because I said so and definitely not because Ebert said so. As always, rent before you buy. I don't want to have anyone ticked at me because I have weird taste in movies.
Other than that, I joined another fanlisting, the Victoria's Secret fanlisting. Woohoo! I'm a little disappointed with some of the fanlisting choices. I was looking in the authors section and not one of my three favorite writers were in there. No Emerson, Whitman, or Thoreau. Apparently I am the only one that likes the transcendentalists. There's no fanlisting for Martin Luther King Jr. either. So why don't I do something about it, you ask? As I've said before, I'm a slacker. There is no way in the world I'm going to dedicate my time to a fanlisting. I can only imagine how much time those things take. I've got enough projects on the backburner without something like that. Besides, I have the Doujinshi Club! (Not that it takes a lot of time...) Anyway, it's the weekend. Enjoy it! I am.
