So I came out as being transgendered to my parents like 2 Thanksgivings ago. Yes I broke the nes during turkey dinner to them. They took it really well. I was super nervous but they put up with me during my "I think I might be a lesbian" phase, and even smiled whenever I would state that I felt more like a boy.
So I got resounding "Duh" from my parents. Mom had toremind me that it would not happen overnight. I thought the nearset gender therapist was 80 miles away but I managed to find one much closer.
So I started therapy and my mom was happy for me. Therapy whent great and because I have been virtually living as a male in public for over 4 years, I was pretty much given the green light to change my name and use the men's room. My therapist had even given me a letter of legal protection just incase anyone stopped or bothered me for whatever reason. Like being in the men's room. (Not all therapists do this but I live in a super small town in Northern Michigan and she was afraid for my legal saftey)
For Christmas my mom changed the name on my gift tag to my prefered name "Seth". And recently my mom has been correcting herself. She told Lilith (my mom's cat who acts more like a human so we tease that she's my little sister) that brother was coming over to play.
So yeah I'm very proud of my mom for correcting herself without my having to ask her or remind her. My dad doesn't say anything one way or the other but he still calls me by my birth name. He has always reffered to me as my full birth name "Elizabeth", and I was always closer to him so I know it'll be hard on him. But he is copeing. He makes bad tranny jokes and we still talk about the same stuff like cars and hunting. (Telling jokes is my dad's way of saying he's ok with stuff. Thats just how he is and he doesn't mean anything mean by it. He is actually a very sweet person and the kind that if he didn't pick on you, you wouldn't know he cares.)
So thats things as is in a nutshell for now. I'm still pre-T and surgery at the moment. Hope to change that soon. My goal right now is to have my name legally changed in time for my 29th birthday in april.
