or dreams plural. not too sure.
so.
I was visiting the house of a friend who was sort of like..doctor who..lol. He was taking care of a little girl who was not entirely a little girl...part something else. So we went out walking around the neighborhood and I noticed a house that wasn't there before. They were all surprised and could tell from a glance it wasn't a house.
and since I was sort of. not a part of the "team" they were worried I would get hurt so they wanted to send me back to the house. But I just kept fuzzing out their words and looking at the gate of the house... Finally I just opened it disregarding their shouts. and when I did the house was gone. and everything was changed.
the whole area turned into mansion land. loads of huge old houses. and the small gate in front of us was now a burnt out shell of a larger gate at the end of a very long driveway. At the end of the driveway was a enormous mansion that looked pretty run down and ever so slightly off.
They were both really worried now and kept asking me to step back and come outside of the driveway gate. I just turned to them mildly surprised and said, "This is my house..?"
She was starting to act strangely since the gate had opened and I was starting to worry that there was something targeting her personally. I glanced down at the little girl and she nodded at me. " You...lived here? are you sure?" She turned back toward me from the house and smiled a strangely sad smile. "Yeah..I did. It was a long time ago...I moved away when I was 13 or so. I didn't even know it was still standing?" She looked back towards it and furrowed her brow. She started walking down the drive towards the house and the inner gate. "Hey, we maybe shouldn't...?" I said as I followed behind her, again glancing at the little girl. She spoke up for the first time since the gate changed, " If this is your home why is it filled with this much magic and bad...stuff?" She turned and looks surprised, "Magic? What are you talking about? I mean it may look dark and.." she trailed off.
But it did have something wrong with it didn't it? I was starting to remember things about living here. I glanced back at the other two wondering if maybe we shouldn't go on and noticed he was pulling out a little black velvet book. He started flipping through it and I saw that it was filled with photographs with small notes on the opposing page. as he was flipping through the faces started to become familiar to me until one struck me almost painfully. wait, stop. who is that? He looked back up at me and glanced back down, " Robert Baily?"
When I looked back up at her, her face showed an expression I had never seen before. It looked a mix of hatred, fear, and confusion. "Crowbar." I blinked and looked back down at the face glaring out of the small book. " Crowbar? IS that a nickname?...How do you know him?" She paused and looked back at the house as we moved closer. " Crowbar is what I called him..Since it was the thing he liked to use. He was related to me." I was startled, she was one of the Baily family? But they have all passed away the last of the Baily line died a long while ago..? "How were you related..wait that means you must be.." I flipped through to near the end and found a picture of a young girl. " Cecilia Baily..but then.. it says here that you're dead." I stepped back a bit and ushered the little girl behind me. If she was dead then was this some magical being or after image? She looked at me surprised and stepped forward after me, clearly confused. "How is that possible? I'm not." She laughed nervously and paused, clearly thinking back.
Oh wait...
"My heart stopped for a while at one point..it all happened somewhat fast so it might not have been officially edited afterwards?" I felt doubtful that Crowbar and my mother would have felt bothered to deal with fixing it.. I looked at him imploringly. "Honestly..you would have felt if I were a dead thing very easily...even she would have known." She peeked from behind his legs and sighed, coming out toward me. "It's true, she really isn't. It must simply be a record defect." I smiled at her and turns around to face the inner gate at last. I was starting to remember a lot more... "..We..actually shouldn't be here." I was starting to feel nervous as I remembered the events of my last day here. I reached forward and touched the gate gently. "When I left....I closed them all inside." I moved my hand as the memories showed me and muttered a word that hadn't been spoken in years. There was a large puff of stale air as some invisible barrier removed itself from around the house. We all started coughing and as I touched the gate again to steady myself it make a small rusted squeak. As if a bell had sounded, the front door suddenly opened. As we looked towards the house people started coming out of the front door.
Oh god they can't still be alive...
She went ridged as four or five people started stalking out of the house. I had come to realize that the whole building was surrounded by some sort of shield that had been clearly set up a long while ago. She seemed to know this and continued to keep her hand on the gate.
"Who are they?" I asked her and pushed the little girl behind me again. "Why were they left inside this shield?" I knew the only way they could be alive is if some strong source was in the house. She seemed to not be listening or looking at the people. She was looking up at the house with a glazed over eyes. "My room. We need to get to my room. It's in there.."
I looked at her and looked back at the people. It slowly dawned on me what power had kept these people alive... "The Kagi...The one I was looking for?!" I gaped up at the house and sure enough, I felt the presence of the Kagi. The barrier must have hidden it from me... She turned back and frowned at me, pointing up to the balcony of a room. " That is it's name?" She frowned and looked back at the building the people had started to approach us and she moved her hand again, muttering. The barrier was back up before the people reached the gate. If you could call then people anymore...
"Crowbar..of all people, of course you survived." I shuddered as he came closer to the gate and stopped. "You don't sound surprised to find me, what about your mother who you cared so much for?". A figure in a gaudy dress moved forward reviling a corpse-like woman. I was surprised and stepped back a bit. "This is all..the Kagis work, is it not?..I didn't mean for this to happen..How did this happen? You all should have been able to get out?"
I glanced behind me and saw the confusion and disgust on both my companions faces. I felt like I should explain, but was afraid to share some of these memories.
"We couldn't get out since You changed the shields response to the Kagi...you locked us up in here with a thing that won't let us die...I was so very right about you child." I frowned and stepped back from the gate. "No..you weren't." I turned and said to my friends, " we should leave. we can get the Kagi another way....and I will explain after." There was a raspy coughing laugh from behind me. I turned back again to the face that used to be my mothers. " I should have left you. I shouldn't have called the doctor so soon for your body..." I frowned more and shook my head... I was going to have to explain.
Crowbar was my uncle. Uncle Robert. He liked to use a crowbar on his "enemies" when he did dirty work for my father. He was always a weasel and when the time came, he was the one who pushed my father off his throne and took over. He had always been Uncle Robert to me because I had grown up unknowing of the whole "Business". Until..
She paused in her story to lift her hair from her face, showing a "U" shaped scar on the side of her forehead.
He started a nice habit of taking out his anger on people in the house. People being servants and myself of course. My mother was safe from this and she never once stopped him. He did many things that would be cause to hate him and yet she never spoke up or saved me. What love I had for her was only in my wish to keep her safe from his anger. I used to like to pretend that I was being brave in letting him hurt me, to keep her safe. It was a long time before that thought started to change into a question. Why was I going though this for her? Who was this woman I was supposedly protecting..who walked around the house in ease. Who never questioned why I wasn't at dinner, where I was a night, why I would appear before her bandaged and patched up by a sympathetic servant. I questioned this for a long while until one day, I sat on my rooms balcony crying for the millionth time in pain and confusion. When she came into my room looking for me for the first time in a while. I was surprised and sit up immediately when she came in. I wiped my face and smiled at her, asking why she was here for me. My smile faded when I saw her face.
She turned and looked at the rotting figure in the dress, a frown fixed upon her face.
She told me to wait and came to me on the balcony, standing before me with a strange expression. My feelings soon changed from surprise to fear as she stepped forward towards me again. I stuttered out apologies in confusion to what I had done to make her so upset. And she pushed me off the balcony.
She smiled a weak smile and looked back at us again. “ I apparently died. But it now seems she called the doctor too soon for me, and I survived in a great amount of pain.” I couldn't speak as I tried to process this. How was this person I had met by chance, deeply involved with the one thing I had been searching for my whole life? She went on, “ So I came home here again to be greeted by my uncle. This was the last day I would ever set foot in that house and the last day these people would ever leave.”
She frowned deeply as she looked past the two most prominent figures. “I honestly did not intent to trap anyone in here, I hope you do know that. You servants were never a part of this family..'feud'.” She bowed her head a little as a chorus of creaking wordless mutters came from the figures in the back.
“ I was in so much pain I don't even recall what happened honestly. I remember Crowbar 'greeting' me for my return, and then I was at the gate, opening the barrier and leaving the grounds.”
A creaky voice interrupted, “You don't remember pushing me down the stairs? I'm almost insulted..” She glared at him and smiled nastily, “I'm sure if your presence was impactive enough to remember I would have.
Closed them in. left. Lost memories.
We leave them here after they threaten to keep calling me back with the Kagi. Which is why the place even showed up as it is.
We leave up the driveway and leave the outer gate. I pass out.
Wake up and we're somewhere else. My friend and the little girl are there waking me up. There are other people there as well that are a part of their group.
everyone is trying to find alternative way to get in and get the kagi. We are inside some underground place and it's dark. We have flashlights. We had just crossed a ledge thing and are top of these weird old grates in front of a gate that looks just like one from the house. I have a very bad feeling about the gate but there's something important under the grates. I shined the flashlight down and saw it was a room. It was a long room that was clearly worn down. Lots of broken things. Weird long chair chains like in train stations all broken up. Lots of lockers and things. It's all dark and broken and I have such a bad bad feeling.
We decide to go down into it. As we walk through there are more lights on and things look slightly less damaged. We end up walking outside a bit in this huge field until we reach what looks like an office cubicle outside. Everything is dusty and looks unused. Everyone starts touching things like the coffee maker. They're all trying to figure out why this stuff is here underground..sort of. Friend is trying to explain the possible magic that could make this when a truck pulls up behind us and more are on the way. No one else is paying attention and cant seem to see the woman getting out of the truck. I'm trying to say..uh guys? I'm backing away and trying to hide behind some office desk thing as she shoots at me.
They still aren’t noticing. And she seems to be able to only see me.
I stand up with my hands up saying. Wait wait. I'm sorry. She starts saying, get out of our world. You aren’t supposed to be here. If you don't leave now we will shoot you. Other trucks pull up. And there's this swooshing pop noise and suddenly my friends notice what's going on. I try to explain why we are here but she really wants us to go.
So most of the people set off back the way we came and I start to go when I realize my hips been shot. Not too badly. I'm trying to get my friend to get going, even the little girl has left. He keeps trying to figure out what's going on. I go on ahead a little kind of annoyed that he wont get a move on as I bleed out n stuff. I go on ahead and it's amazing. Suddenly there's people everywhere. And the way we came through has changed into like a bustling train station but...it's like an open office building. Just people everywhere. And the ceilings are so high. And the rooms are huge and bright. I just start laughing as I walk through saying it;s the same but better. Everyones the same but better. I start running through and the rooms sort of zip by. My friend catches up and suddenly the rooms are getting older. He says we need to hurry because the world will close off soon according to that woman. The rooms are now like old churches. Huge gold. Old paintings. And now we're sliding across these huge painted floors and we realize we're on the ceilings now. And we see an ophelia painting and he gets mad because it's cut off like they do in the books leaving parts out. And now we're sliding up and around and suddenly we're in the grass. And it's some kid even race. In the town center park thing.
So I take off my shoes and we join in for fun.
And suddenly i'm across town and alone with no shoes.and I can't find anyone. So I walk back to park and try to find my shoes. And he's still there trying to find me. Somethings up with the way i'm jumping around. And he hands me my shoes and I wake up.
[ will fix it up soon]
