got into a conversation with a Walmart employee this afternoon.
she liked it well enough (heck, she said she could still be an employee even if she only worked 3 days a month O.O), but she was working in the photo section, which, from what I've heard, is better than "normal" on the floor work.
I'm really torn. I seriously need a source of income so I can go back to school this fall (the tuition bill's gonna be a few thousand more expensive than last year...), but still. Walmart is known for not treating their employees fairly (or anyone, for that matter), and it just isn't a good company. There's not a lot anyone can do about it, however, because it's a vicious cycle. VERY vicious.
and that's not even going into the pages and pages of studies I researched that have found that Walmart is horrible for the local economy of the towns they're in.
Anywho, I shall make a semi-list.
Pros:
-Money
-Probably will transfer back to school, making even more money
-Being a suck-up can get you places
-Get a first-hand look into a big company
Cons:
-Illiterates and people who can't work anyplace else work there
-No one cares about you (=management, etc)
-I shall be made a hypocrite. I despise anything having to do with the company (yet I still shop there because that's the only place I can afford... cruel, isn't it?) because of all of the above.
I do not want to be made into the thing I most desire NOT to be, yet I think that it would be a good chance for me to look on the other side of the fence for myself.
*frustration*
the ad comes out Wednesday. Saw a much more awesome one in the Trib today; got a little jealous haha. We'll see if anything happens with the business venture, then just play it by ear.
If anything, I can explain to potential employers later that I spent the summer working on starting my own mini-business, which shall impress them because I shall tell them of the many skills I've "learned" (=already knew, just put more into practice) which are applicable to their company.
My new Psychology Today magazine came today! Discovered I can't read my favorite magazine and eat at the same time; i had a brand-new box of Kix cereal nearby, and by the time I realized what I was doing, half the box was gone. O.O;;...............
and I wasn't even halfway done with it. Imagine if I had kept going.....
The burn has tanned on my arms, hurrah! My back still hurts, but I expect that shall go away soon enough. Farmer's tan is eliminated. :]
