For me, this scene signifies life. Like the train, life is a journey. You're stuck on the rails of existance. You don't know where you came from, why you're here, but you keep on traveling with uncertainty in this world. You don't know when you will get off this train, and as you travel along this journey all of the people you know and love will slowly disappear, and you are eventually left alone, with just the memories of those people.
