Well, it seems like Cindy coming to tea had good results, since she's coming later today to put a camera on the roof to watch the clock tower... But first, the near disaster that happened before she came...
I woke up early Thursday morning sitting on the living room couch, with all the lights on and windows open, tv and radio blaring, cat food scattered across the floor, Lady Luck eyeing me warily from the doorway...after a moment of staring around, I relized that I must have been sleepwalking again, a frightening thought. (More about that later.) After turning everything off, cleaning up, and taking a quick shower, I got dressed and headed off to the bakery with Lady Luck on my shoulder to pick up the chocolate cake I'd ordered the day before. Everything was fine untill I was on my way home.... I stopped to watch a girl and a boy screaming at each other in the middle of the street, but decided not to worry about them since I was holding the cake.
To late. A bucktoothed girl with glasses and too few clothes ran across the street and plowed into me, knocking me down, then rushed off without even saying sorry. I was fine, and so was Lady Luck. The cake was not. The box had flown out of my hands and right into a wall, improving the appearence of the wall, but not the cake. In fact, the cake was now flattened against the wall, and icing was running down onto the sidewalk, while the empty box lay sadly on the ground.
I groaned. This was just what I needed today. There was no way I could get another cake before Cindy came...
But at that moment, a rather catlike figure stepped out of the laughing crowd that seemed to have gathered instantly. He wore black and had a huge sword on his back, his face was partly masked by a long billowing red scarf and green sunglasses, and he was surrounded by animals. A black cat sat on his head while a white one nestled in his arms and a brownish puppy stood near him, wagging its tail.
Holding out one black-gloved hand, he said "May I help thee, milady?"
I took his hand and stood up, saying "I thank thee, milord." Something about this stranger made the use of courtly languge seem right.
It was hard to tell, but he seemed to smile behind the scarf as he bowed. "Only a knight's duty to a lady in need" he replied, and I saw that a reddish jewel glowed, with a rather sinister light, on his chest. "I hope thou did not treasure the cake."
I don't know why, but I found myself pouring out the story of how Cindy was coming to tea, and how I didn't know how I could get another cake good enough.
When I finished, the knight was clearly smiling. "Milady, am I correct to asume that thy abode is in that tower?" he asked, pointing at my tower. I nodded.
"Return there, milady, and prepare thy tea. I will bring thee thy cake before the stroke of noon." And with that he was off, scarf floating gently in the wind behind him. I wondered if he could be trusted, but he did seem to know what he was doing.
And indeed, just as the tower clock began to strike noon, the doorbell rang. It was the knight, and he held two large chocolate cakes. As I thanked him, there were footsteps on the stairs, and Cindy came up them. The knight handed me the cakes, bowed, and said, "I leave thee to enjoy my gifts, milady."
"But thee can stay.." I started, but he cut me off by saying, "Milady, I would be only an anoyance, and I think thy guest has things to say that are only for thy own ears." He was right.
I would write more but since Cindy's comeing today and I'm tired, I'm going to take a nap instead. I'll write more soon!
