This is the story that connects with the contest I'm having, The "If I were human, I would look like..." contest
On a cold day in winter, JDB and the four ducks, Pecky, Eddie, Edie, and Clarence, stroll down the town, his boots in the snow. He was dressed in a short sleeve shirt, a hoodie/jacket, wool gloves and hat, and jeans. Eddie wearing his small zoot hat he got from Santa and Mrs. Clause, Edie and Clarence wearing doll scarfs. The angelic ducks sitting on his shoulders, Pecky resting on top of his head and Eddie floating next to him. JDB sighs, his breath visible in the cold, pondering what to do. After a while, the ducks start to shiver, JDB notices it and suggests to go to a store to warm up. Clarence and Edie smiles and nods, Pecky says, "Yeah, lets." They look around for a nearby shop, then Eddie points out "Ruby's Rack." They head inside, JDB unzipping his hoodie/jacket, and Edie and Clarence taking their scarfs off. Ruby, at the counter, states "Welcome to Ruby's Rack. I've got a little bit of everything, so have a look around." Pecky, staring at Ruby, saying to himself "Oh, I will." JDB says, "thanks," as they head into the isles, taking a basket to buy some stuff.
Moments past, JDB's basket is filled with a pair of jeans, cargo pants, a t-shirt, and a new hoodie, Eddie and Pecky on his shoulder, Clarence and Edie in another isle, looking at the clothing. Soon, JDB calls out for the two, and Edie says, "We'll be there in a bit." JDB replies, "Ok," then walks up to the counter, Ruby says "cute ducks you have." JDB says, "thank you," as he sets the items on top of it, Pecky lowering onto the counter as he does. Meanwhile, Peyo walks across the store, then spots Edie and Clarence as they slowly stroll down the isle they're in. The two daydream of them in those clothes as Peyo walks up to them suddenly. They look up at Peyo, his eyes full of excitement, the two a bit confused. Clarence moves back a bit, Edie breaks the silence by saying, "Um... Hello there." Peyo smiles, saying "Wow, talking rubber ducks." He reaches down and picks the two up.
As JDB reaches in his pocket to pay for the clothes, he and Eddie stare stare at Pecky as he stares at Ruby's... rack, a bit drooling. Ruby, a bit irritated, opens her mouth, about to say something as Peyo runs up, saying, "Look, mom. Talking rubber ducks!" JDB, Ruby, and Eddie turn to look at Peyo as he holds Edie and Clarence in his hands. "Can I keep them? Huh?" JDB says, "Uh, excuse me, kid. But those two ducks your holding in your hands? They're Edie and Clarence. They're with me." "Ah, cool!" Peyo says. He then notices Eddie on JDB's shoulder and Pecky on the counter while he gives JDB Edie and Clarence. "Oh, more ducks!" He reaches out and grabs Pecky. Pecky, realizing whats going on, shakes his head and says, "Whoa, whats going on?" Peyo then accidentally squeezes him, causing him to open his beak and squeaks (like a rubber duck). Eddie and JDB watch, thinking 'what was that.' Ruby, grinning, asks Peyo to squeeze him a few more times, and he does in glee, Pecky squeaking like a rubber toy, JDB holding in his laughter as Eddie chuckles. Pecky "Ow, you little." JDB quickly grabs the pissed off Pecky as he causes the counter and clothes to explode, Eddie chuckling. "Yeah, best not to squeeze them," JDB says. He then pays for the damages and apologies, leaving with the four ducks. Peyo waving bye at them then helps his mother clean up.
As the five walk down the snowy streets, JDB says, "well that was.... interesting and a waste of money." Eddie, sitting ontop of his head, softly chuckles and replies, "Yeah, but it was worth it seeing Pecky squeaking." Pecky, floating next to them, glares at Eddie, saying, "What was that?" Eddie looks at him, stating, "Hey, you had it coming, otherwise I bet Ruby was gonna smack you across the store." Pecky floats up and lands next to him, eyes focused on each other, he then says, "I had it coming, huh?" Eddie grins and says, "Yep." Pecky jumps on him, saying "Well lets how you like it." Eddie squeaks "Cut it out." The two then start fighting. Edie, sitting on JDB's shoulder, sighs a bit. Clarence, on his other shoulder, looks over at his sister, asking, "Something wrong, Edie?" Edie replies, "Nothing. Its just that I wish I could wear some clothes." Clarence agrees, "Yeah. Some of them looked awesome." He then looks at JDB, asking whether he knows a way. JDB stops, "Hm... Well it'll be hard to find clothing that small and I can't knit/sow to save my life..." He looks up at Eddie and Pecky, leans down his head and lets them fall into the snow. When the two get up, JDB says, "Now that you two calmed down, what do you two think?" They float back up, Eddie fixing his head and says, "Don't you know a technique or something that will turn us into Gaians (Humans), Pecky?" Pecky thinks and replies, "Well, I might know... for a price." JDB "Ok, we'll talk about the price when we get home." JDB lets the two warm up in his wool hat as they head home while the snow stops falling.
