Dear readers, This is not your common happy story, the one you are about to read is about.. an ending of a chapter, and some closure from it. It's about memories of the past and the future. So feel free to read along if you wish.
The girl sighs softly as she looks down at her hands laying in her lap, and she can't help sighing softly as she sees the faint, small paler ring of skin on her left hand. It's hardly noticeable to those that would look at her hands now, but it makes her sad, knowing that the ring that used to sit there Has lost it's meaning. She looks over at her desk and catches sight of the small gold band, then reaches over to gently brush it with her fingers, sad that the reason she used to wear it no longer matters. But as she reaches for it, the light catches on the thicker Silver band on her right hand, and she pauses as she looks down at it. The ring itself is nothing to special, just a band of steel with a couple characters engraved in it, but the promise it used to hold, makes her breath catch in her throat and her hand stills as she looks down at it then gently runs the thumb of her left hand over the raised engravings. She remembers the night it was slipped on her finger with a faint smile, but then the feeling of loss hits, making her pull her hand back and for moment she gets overwhelmed again by feelings of disappointment and sadness. You see Dear readers, there is a twin to this ring, and only two exactly like it in the world. That memory, makes her suck in a soft breath as she slowly slips the slightly nicked and scratched ring from her finger, then turns it over in her palm. looking at the engraving inside it, and knowing what is says.. has lost it's meaning. That realization makes her catch her breath slightly, and she wraps her fingers around the ring for a moment, almost like she is about to toss it aside. But after the moment of pain passes, she slowly lays down on her side on the bed, and opens her hand. Just gazing at the ring as her mind floats back to the memories of when her and her lover were together and exchanged these rings. The Girl still bears a small scar from that night, and unlike the white lines on her fingers, it won't fade so easily, but that is just one of those things she will always have of a reminder of when she was happy with him. Even though it couldn't last, she isn't willing to fully forget the good times they shared nor the memories they made together. The girl slowly sits up, and reaches out to her dresser, for the small box the ring came in. While it hurts that the promise these were meant to symbolize will never happen.. she slowly and carefully places the runed band into the box, and looks at it for a long moment. before slowly snapping the lid closed and turning the box in her hands. She then gets up and gently places the box on the shelf, next to a memento from her past lover, and she knows now.. it will always be a reminder of what never will be, but also that the memories will always remain, and while she's fine with that. Right now, she can't handle seeing it or feeling it and constantly being reminded of her mistakes. So for now.. it will sit in it's box on the shelf, slowly gathering dust, until her heart can heal enough for her to remember the happy memories it meant fondly.. even though their love was never meant to be nor last...
