A God's Curse

Alexander was a young sailor in ancient Greece. Although, in that time, it wasn't so old. It was a beautiful thriving city, Athens. The buildings were white, the people; tall, beautiful, intelligent... Who wouldn't want to live here? No, that wasn't right. The problem rested, not within humans, though sometimes they did decide that their own lives were more important then others. No, it was the Gods. Gods were just like humans, but with so much power. On good days they would give blessings to those they liked, or they would forgive those they didn't. On bad days... most people were cursed. People died when a God had a simple headache. The worst though, was when the Gods were angry at each other. Nothing could stop the torrents of anger aimed at each other, with humans caught in the center of the fight.

Alexander knelt inside of Poseidon's temple, asking for safe passage over his oceans. He placed an offering as he always did and stood. Long white robs brushing against his feet as he raised his golden eyes to the statue. He turned and left the temple a pack over his back. He was going to the temple of Athena next. Athena was the Goddess of Athens after all. He had prayed to her ever since he was little, it was only right that he do it as he left her fair city.

It only took a little while to get to the temple. He knelt before the stone Goddess's feet when angry voices greeted his ears. Two people were yelling, screaming at each other. "He is in Athens and I wish to have my revenge upon him!" "You will not flood my city, Uncle." A man and a woman. The second, much less angry and loud then what the man's had been, though still very stern. Alexander stood slowly, looking down the hall where the voices came. "You will not let me into your gates and he will not come to me" The man said through his teeth. "I dare say, you have been a irritation to me. Begone from my temple." Alexander began to creep, closer, his curiosity getting the better of him. He reached the room where the voices came from. "You cannot throw me out, we are family." "Then as family, I ask you to leave." A man and a woman stood, very tall. One sporting a beard, the other, her hair plaited with gold. The Goddess Athena and the God Poseidon. The moment he had made this recognition, both turned to him.

"Alexander." Athena spoke gently. "You have lived in Athens all your life." She stepped towards him, "And you ride the sea as well." Poseidon barked. Athena only glanced at him for a moment before her blue eyes returned to Alexander. "Do you wish for your home to be flooded because of one life that Poseidon wishes to end?" It was an easy question, of course he didn't wish for his home to be destroyed. "No... I don't." He spoke. How else was he to answer? Poseidon let out an angry yell as he moved past Athena and grabbed hold of Alexander's robes, "Then my anger will go to you." He hissed. Alexander was thrown to the ground as the God stood above him. "You are a sailor, and you will remain upon my ocean, never to return home to the beautiful Athens that you saved. And you will die upon the sea. Your body becoming food for all the creatures in my domain." His eyes narrowed at him, "And to all those who step upon your ship, will be cursed as well to it's floor boards." And with that, he was gone. Alexander began to breath heavily. He had angered the God that gave him safe passage. For being completely honest. He moved to his knees and began to cry, "Athena" He wept, "Please, spare me from this curse that he as placed." He begged. She moved to stand in front of him and bent to touch his shoulder. "I cannot." she said, pity in her voice. "But I will bless you for saving my city. I will bless you with immortality." He raised his eyes to her. "Immortality to find your own way to break the curse that he has placed upon you."

From that moment forward, Alexander became a pirate. Sailing the seas with the unfortunate crew that stepped upon his deck. Some men were angry, afraid, and would dive into the sea to escape the boat, or would try to walk away from the boat when it came into port. Their death was always instant and bloody. The ship sailed, a black cloud in the night, taking anything and everything. Only a few escaped from the fate of being killed or being pulled aboard. And through their lips came the infamy of The Owl, it's cursed crew, and it's immortal captain. Not a very terrifying name for a horrifying ship, but it did the job. However, it held no name upon its side or rear. The ship looked just like all the others when a British flag was pulled up, making it all the more deadly.

Several men had died through the years of being on the sea, and it did take men to run a ship. It pulled into port with it's goods and passing to people on the land. Some of the men stood on the deck, talking with other men upon the plank, trying to convince them of the high sea life. However, after a little while. all moved from the deck down below for the evening. The ship appearing to be empty.
