Persona: Vaan usually likes to talk less and do more. He is willing to help whenever he is needed. He normally becomes embarrassed easily.
History:
The seventh of Orion that was casted out as a reject. Vaan had been born the 10th out of his 15 siblings. Orion had originally cast him aside when as a baby because Vaan did not cry; and only healthy babies cried. As a boy, he grew up being laughed at, taunted because he rarely spoke. Though, his actions were good enough for him. He was a hardworking boy who provided the city with manual labor whenever it was necessary. Orion looked down upon his son, seeing this as an act as a slave. Yet, the boy brought him compliments of how helpful his son was, despite his silence.
In his early teens, Vaan trained with the royal guard in learning the art of the sword. Quick to learn and adjust to his opponent, Vaan easily bested most of the guards by the age of 14. Being proud warriors they are, they informed Orion that Vaan's skills were meager, decent at best so that their names may not be squandered by a mere child. Thus Orion never knew of Vaan's talent; even if they were equal to the Oswald himself. This did not worry Vaan however, when the time came, he knew that he would be needed. Little did he know that the time he thought of was soon to be upon him and his precious kingdom.
At the age of 18, his swordsmanship had been honed to their utmost extreme. His longest battle usually ended in three moves of his blade. Ever since his father had accepted all of his children as royalty, Vaan spent his leisure time in the royal library, learning more about the world as well as the secrets of magic. He became particularly interested in fire magic.
One day as he was making his way to the library for another session, all of Netherworld broke loose. He heard screams from the throne room, the screams of his brothers and sisters. As he raced back to see what had occurred, his vision went red as blood trickled down his face. The stinging sensation of a dagger embedded itself between his back. He found himself on the floor; his head smacking hard onto the gold-laden ground. Soon enough, everything turned black.
When he came too, he found himself in the infirmary of the castle, bandaged up and bedridden. His body ached all over from the attack. A nurse who came in informed him that he had been stabbed multiple times. Saying her apologizes, the nurse also handed him a note that she said was left by the one who brought him there. Vaan read the note. It stated, “You will be the one who will control the blade of flame. The seventh son of the king. A survivor of the assault on your brothers and sisters. The one who will bring peace to Valhalla. You will be The Warrior of Ashes.”
With calm hands, Vaan placed the note inside his back pocket and slowly eased out of the bed. Ignoring the nurse’s complaints, he put on his clothing and walked outside, out of Valhalla and into his new destiny.
