Leech's odyssey-Chapter 6: A monster comes out to play.
Everyone stood in silence and horror as the commander let out a small laugh. He looked around and nodded happily to himself, then turned to the six people hi and said. "Now, all of you, gather the bodies. and burn them!". He then turned and walked to the edge of the lighted area, not far from where Leech was. He was now shaking with fear as he realized that he could be killed if he was caught. Leech looked over at the group of six, still standing where they had been, but now the slavers were unbinding the slaves so they could do all the dirty work. When they were free the slavers formed a rough circle around them to keep them from running. Two of the slaves were young, maybe early twenties, but they looked ragged, defeated, and hopeless. The other was Alice, she looked angry and still had plenty of fight in her. The older two immediately set about their task, but Alice just stood there.
One of the slavers walked up to her and gave her a shove, forcing her the stumble and fall to the ground on her hands and knees. He bent down and said, "Please! If you don't he'll kill the both of us!", Alice just turned to him with fire in her eyes and said, "Good, then at least we'll be free.". The slaver, with a look of frustration and understanding, grabbed and pulled her to her feet and said, "Well, i'd like to live, for a little longer anyway.". He released her and she took several steps toward one of the bodies, but then stopped. She stood for nearly a full minute before, suddenly, she swung her arm sideways, slinging a sizable stone toward the commander, striking him in the back of the head. The blow caught him by surprised and caused to stumble and nearly fall. In a matter of seconds after the trow Alice had taken off, running full speed for the commander as he tried to recover from the attack. She was a yard or so away when she leapt into the air, her fist ready to deliver another hit to his head. The commander was too fast for her though and spun around, grabbing her by the throat at the same time.
She was still able to land her fist in the center of his face and a kick to his stomach. He look very surprised by her speed and strength, but all around unaffected. He lifted her a little bit higher and tightened his grip until she was nearly unconscious, then trow her like a rag doll to the side with such force she slammed into the house as she landed. She landed only a few feet from Leech, and once Heartman looked away he moved to check on her, she had been knocked out and had cuts on her neck from the man's fingernails and a cut head from the landing, Leech found himself staring at the wounds and had a weird feeling, but before he could think about it the commander spoke, grabbing his attention. He had reached his hand around to the back of his head and now shown it, slightly red with blood, to the group before him and said "Who is to answer for this?". The slavers were now standing shoulder to shoulder, the one who had spoke to Alice earlier stepped forward and hung his head. Heartman stepped to him, smiled and said, "Well then! For your honesty I shall not kill you.", mild relief shown on the man's face, but it didn't last as the commander reached down to his boot and brought up a leather strap. "..but you will wish i had by time I'm finished" he then said with a laugh in his voice.
Leech looked away, tiered of seeing the commander's evil behavior, but he could still hear the whipping and sounds of pain coming from the slaver. Leech realized that now was the time to take advantage of the situation and move to a safer place, he slowly stood to a low crouch and grabbed Alice by her ankles to take her to safety as well. He decided the safest place was the tree line of the forest, the distance wasn't to far but the time seemed to drag out as he slowly moved toward the trees, trying to stay low, slow, and quiet, all while dragging Alice, who could come to at any moment. The two finally reached the tree line, once there in the deep darkness Leech felt immediately calm, and could think straight for the first time. Soon he remembered his possessions were still in the house, and now seemed like a good time to gather them. The only place he knew they could be was inside the house, so he slowly and quietly crept to the back. He found the back door to be unlocked, and slowly opened the door and stepped into a room lit only by pale moon light. From the room he could see the house was only three rooms, the one he was in and two others separated by a short all way that lead from the room Leech was in to the front door.
He could see the beating out side still taking place, so he slowly walked to the the room on his left, and noticed a light was burning in it. He cautiously peaked around the corner to ensure it was clear before he entered it. When he did he walked to the middle of the room and glanced around until he saw a small wooden chest sitting in the far right corner of the room. He quietly walked to it and opened it slowly, it creaked as he did so. The noise scared him, so he stopped and listened for incoming footsteps, he heard none and finished opening it. Inside he was relived to find all of his things, he tied the pouch to his pants, the sword onto his back, and casually tossed the cloak over his shoulder. He then quickly yet quietly made his way back out the way he came, closing to door back and returning to Alice at the tree line. When he got back he found her still out, so he laid his cloak over her to keep her warm and began to walk about in the shadow to think about his next move. He briefly entertained the thought of attacking the commander while he was distracted, but after remembering Alice's failed attempt he quickly dismissed the though.
A few seconds of thinking later he felt a strange feeling in himself, he thought it must have be hunger as he had yet to eat anything, but he didn't want to sneak back inside and risk getting caught again. Then he remembered the reason for the capsules in his pouch, the note with them said to take them when he was hungry. He opened the pouch and retrieved one of the small shiny, crimson orbs, to him it looked too small to provide any nourishment at all, so he grabbed two more and popped all three into his mouth. When he did so, it felt as if they erupted liquid, so much in fact that he almost choked trying to drink it all before it sprayed from his mouth, but luckily he didn't loose any. The liquid was sweet and warm, but left a bitter after taste. He immediately felt the best he had felt since he first awoke, he was feeling happy, strong, and rejuvenated. The feeling only last a few moment however, soon his body hurt immensely. By this time the remaining slaves had completed their task and the bodies were alight on the front lawn, Leech could see it clearly from where he was, and found himself staring into the flame and feeling as though he were in it, because his whole body from his guts to his skin burned.
He soon fell to his hands and knees from the pain. Leech stayed there for a minute or so as the pain quickly worsened, until he couldn't take it any more and let out a scream so full of pain and fear that it even sent a chill down commander Heartman's spine. In a short time the commander and the other two able bodied slavers came running around the side of the house to investigate, two had lanterns and old, rusted swords, and Heartman stood between them only a little in front. Even though his tear filled eyes Leech could tell by their faces the something was wrong, that was quickly confirmed by the man on Leech's right when he said, in a frightened tone, "What the hell is wrong with his eyes! they're blood red!". They stood there, frozen in shock by the sight before them, soon Leech's back and head began to hurt ten times worse than the rest of his body and he quickly tore the seaweed straps that held his sword to him. No sooner than it hit the ground did Leech fell the pain increase more still, the heard a wet and sickening ripping and popping noise from his back and head simultaneously, the pain from before quickly subsided, but Leech felt incredibly weak now and fell totally flat onto his stomach.
It was at this time the commander chose to strike, mostly out of fear of the small winged and horned monster before him. Heartman quickly drew his sword and drove it through the boy's back and out through his stomach, the pain for Leech was intense as the commander placed his boot between the two fresh wings and twisted the sword out. Leech managed to look up and see the man backing way from him, smiling smugly to himself, this enraged Leech, and that coupled with the intense pain and fear he felt caused his conscious mind to fade out of control, leaving his body at the mercy of pure animalistic instinct and rage. As the three men were about to turn to leave the creature to die Leech slowly stood. The movement caused the men to turn and the saw the boy bleeding profusely from his gut, but only for a moment then it stopped and the wound was completely healed. Suddenly Leech leapt forward into the commander forcing him to the ground, as he fell Heartman hit his head violently on the ground and was knocked out.
Leech sat crouched on the commander's chest, and looked up at the other two men and smiled, revealing two sharp inch and a half long fangs. The one to his left dropped his lantern and sword and tried to run at the sight of this, but Leech was to fast, with an leap and small flap of his wings he landed on the man's back, forced him to the ground and bit into his neck, sucking the blood from his body within a minute giving the man no chance to fight back. At that the remaining slaver tried to make for the forest. Seeing the movement he instinctively leapt after the man, landing on his back and biting into him like a rabid dog. As the man collapsed, he screamed in pain as blood erupted from the wound in his neck, Leech drained him quickly as well. This was done three more times as he lept to the slaves and the beaten slaver whom laid on the ground, he drank them all dry.
By time he was done the commander had come around, and seeing the carnage around him, tried to escape, but to no avail. Leech spotted the man and was on him in a matter of seconds, he grabbed him by the leg and threw him carelessly into the lighted front yard, he wanted to have fun with his prey now. Before the commander had landed Leech jumped on his chest, slamming him into the ground. He stood on the man's chest and smiled sinisterly at him foe a few seconds before bending down and breaking his shoulders with only his finger tips, and repeating that on his knees. The commander screamed and thrashed about in pain, but Leech was not phased. He lifted the man off the ground, using his wings to get a few feet of the ground, he held the man by his though in one hand and with the other he punched him in the face, breaking his jaw and sending him flying into the stone wall of the house, embedding him into it enough to hold his body in place. Then Leech glided to the man and looked at him, he was done playing now and was ready to end things, but not too quickly.
He grabbed the commander's ankles and quickly and mercilessly ripped his legs off from the hip joint. The pain was such that the commander couldn't even scream, and he almost went into shock, but Leech placed his hands over the wounds and a bright red glow emitted from them and the wound stopped bleeding. Leech then repeated this on his arm, removing them from the shoulder. By this point Leech, the wall, and what was left of the commander was covered in blood. Heartman was still alive, but just barely, Leech pulled the dieing man from the wall and too his head in one hand and his torso in the other, and separated them in one bloody, gory, pull. When he was done he felt calm again as he slowly returned to the ground. Almost immediately as he touched the ground he felt weak and tired, and stood for a moment before passing out in the blood stained grass.
