1. The running away from troubles
Run faster! Run faster! Run faster! Come on! the girl mumbled over and over again as she ran through a forest. “YOU CAN’T RUN FROM US CREATURE!” the things yelled far behind her. “ON THE CONTREAY IT SEEMS THAT I CAN!” she hollered back.
The girl laughed as if she hadn’t laughed for a long time. She scanned the forest for any sign of danger. But all that she found were trees and grass. The girl didn’t look human, she had horns of the devil, red hair with blue streaks, blue tinted skin, one red eye and one blue eye, and enhance every thing, strength, hearing, sight, smell, and flexibility or so it seemed.
The girl looked up and saw a bat family looking for there dinner. So she called to the littlest bat in a different language then earlier, “Necka dapoo neneo,”. The littlest bat then flew to her hand. “How’s the hunt going?” she asked the little bat.
The little bat squeaked and flew back up into the sky. “Goodnight to you to!” She called after the bat with a smile in her face.
As she settled onto a little patch of green grass she took out a scroll. It said, “Shedu ake puk`a askrka!” in the strange language which surprised the girl. spoke the old words. The girl mumbled. ’Transport to Dragon Rider!’ she got all excited like finally found what she was searching for. So she said the hope filled words. As she said those words she was lifted off the moss covered ground and was hurled through the air to god knows where and probably never coming back……
2.To see or Not to see
I woke up with sand in my eyes. All I could think about was the strange girl running from something and her saying those strange words. It was having an effect on me. That was a weird feeling but passed quickly. I got up and put on my oiled linen clothes like most of the villagers here in Altherldale. I went to the water basin and dunked my head in. I tousled my hair and ran out to meet my brother. I stumbled over a bundle of books by my door, forgetting about how I set them there because I was too tired from work to put them away last night. So I stacked them back up and set them on my bed. This time I walked to I wouldn’t trip again over anything else. I finally made it to the kitchen and there he sat. My brother Caldern with his back to me. I snuck up to him and jumped up and said “Boo!” he jumped four feet into the air. “Dexter,” he said while I laughed. Too bad he’s so serious all the time. He grabbed the back of my shirt and lifted me up with ease. It didn’t hurt we did this all the time, I’d scare him he would threaten me and then laugh to. It was hilarious if you knew us. This time though he through me over his shoulder and went outside. I squirmed while he laughed at my feeble attempts to escape his hold. Finally he put me down and said, “Dexter, its time you know about our father.” I stopped admittedly and he set me down. When he saw me again I had tears in my eyes. All I know was that our father had a banded our mother for reasons unknown to all of us except our mother.
“Caldern, what are you getting at?” I asked still tears threaten to spill, I quickly wiped them away. “Dexter, our father went looking for the worlds of magic. The angelic forest, the demons wastelands, and the dragons mountains. In order to enter these worlds you had to go through the three gates. He never got through the first one. The reason he did was so he could find us a better place to live. The angels don’t like humans in there forests they killed him quickly although the demons if he would have gotten through would have tortured him so be happy he died swiftly. He wanted you, not me, to follow in his foot steps. I don’t see why but then I didn’t know. The reason I wanted to get out of the house to tell you this is because I have something for you and its here in the trees. Ooh one more thing, I needed to tell you why he wanted you to. You have powers kid, that no one else in our family has. And now its time to put the to the test.” he pulled a sword, some paper, and called, “Time to come out!” he handed the sword to me and said yet again, “The paper is magic, write anything on them and it becomes real. The sword is magic as well, as long as the wielder is brave with out doubt the sword will strike true. Now with these tools you will pravel. Our father found them in one of his wonderings. He told our mother to hold on to them. When she died she passed them on to me for safe keeping.” he finally finished. I just stared and then the tears got the better of me. They spilled down my cheeks, blurring my eyesight. “Calderon……….” I stared then stopped because I didn’t know what to ask him right then. So I just got up and hugged him. Its been I don’t know how many years its been since I did this. Of course I have been embarrassed to since im nearly a man, in one year, but it felt good to hug my big brother for once. He picked me up with ease again. Like I was made of feathers other then flesh and bone. He held me like this for god knows how long. Then he set me down once again. My tears were dry by then too so we went back to the house. Once we were inside I finished my question. “Calderon, who were you telling at to come out know?” he hesitated like he really didn’t know why. That was odd of him he always knew what to say. “I don’t know why, I just felt a strange urge to call that out.” and he shrugged like nothing happened just a few minutes ago. I went back to my room and placed the bright yellow blade he handed to me under my mattress. I was unsure about that weapon the only kind of weapon I was used to was a bows and arrows. I placed the paper inside one of the books on top of that particular mattress. I grabbed my bow and a pack and my arrows my father crafted for me and set them on top of the mattress as well. I felt the need to have them there. I walked back out and on the table was two plates full of the deer I hunted down with Calderon yesterday. We ate in silence, I think he was letting me process what he had told me. After we were done eating, we went to town to bye supplies for the winter such as salt, sugar, flour, spices, and clothing. I could remember that our mother work for long hours not going to bed till midnight every night and wake in the early hours of the day. She made extra soap, blankets, and she tanned leather for us but we grow out of those quickly only the soap was left. We went to Nate’s tanning shop to buy more leather for clothing and grease (or lard depending on what he had to give us). Then we headed for Edmund’s spices, we passed pleasant commentary with Edmund while we got cinnamon, flour, sugar, and salt. After paying for those we headed for the blacksmith because we always went there to talk to Erick, he is a fun guy to talk to. When we got there however we found him slumped over his anvil. I ran over to him only to find his fire poker stuck through his chest. I was facing all kinds of sadness today I just wanted to die. I stumbled backwards and wailed at the top of my lungs for help. Calderon ran over and pulled him back found out he was still breathing, shallowly though. His wife came running out and stumbled back to her kids ran to see if their father was alright. The doctor of Altherldale can running with a pair of calipers and thread and a needle. Doctor Hendercale ran saying out of his way. The kids ran back to their mother crying and hiding behind her skirt, they were only kids eight and nine year old boys. They didn’t know what was happening. The men of the town, including Calderon, carried the blacksmith to Doctor Hendercale’s house. I went to the wife and kids and walked them inside to try to calm them. Plus I didn’t want to be near the blood anymore then them. Once inside the kids started to wail in almost the same manner as I did only not as loud. “shh…..Aaron, Sam. Daddies going to be ok. Though her voice fell to a whisper the children stopped and asked at the exact same time, “Really?”, “Yes my children he will. He’s just going to sleep for a long time but you will see him again.” her voice broke again and some how the children understood but stayed quiet and went up stairs to their rooms. “Stella, do you want me to help clean up?” my voice broke to as I indicated with my head outside. “I think that would be nice. Thanks for helping out Dexter I appreciate it. I know he was you and your brothers friend.” she said with a slight smile on her lips. We walked out with a bunch of rags and two big bowls of boiled water to clean up the blood and guts that was destroyed when the poker was thrusted into his body. By the time we were finished all the rags were bloody red and the water a muddy color from the blood in the water. We were sweating from the anger and hurt from whom ever did this and the death of the blacksmith. “Stella im going to go check on Ernie.” I whispered to her and stood up, grabbed the two bowls into the house and dumped them down the drain before she could object. I pulled her to her feet and called Aaron and Sam outside. “what are you doing?” Stella asked. “ im going to take you to me and my brothers house so you can mourn in peace.” I whispered to Stella before the children came down. “thank you!” she mouthed to me. “ come on Aaron, Sam we are going to Dexter’s house to stay a while.” Stella said to the kids so they didn’t ask. They walked up to my house. I went straight to the Doctors house, sprinting is a better term for what I was doing. I knocked on the door and then let my self in. to my grief they were lowering Ernie’s body into a wooden box as they did with my mother. “Calderon, his wife and children are at our house so they can mourn in silence with out all the hussle and bussle to bug them. We need to get back and tell them the bad news.” I said eyeing Ernie and winced, holding back tears. As we made our way up our familiar trail toward our cabin like house. Stella, Aaron, and Sam were waiting on the steps. I ran up to the house to get the door for the young lady. Calderon got a little sweaty though, I wonder why? I lead the kids to my room and led bedrolls out for them. Calderon lead Stella to the room who’s used to belong to our parents. We haven’t been back there since dad left. I picked up the book with the paper and the bow. I figured if I didn’t bring out the bright sword the kids wouldn’t know I had it.
