Mei Li came from an aristocratic Fire Nation family, but after her father fell into debt, her mother committed suicide and Mei Li ran away. She is a wanderer by spirit, and probably would not be able to settle down in one place for too long. She learned her firebending from her mother, but for the most part, her firebending is self-taught since her mother committed suicide when Mei Li was 13. Her father is a non-bender. Mei Li is now 15 years old.
